Okay how important are SAT IIs in the admission process. I have a great ACT which I plan on sending and a good SAT score which I wouldn't mind them seeing.

However, my SAT 2s really bring my whole application down. How important are these actually in the scheme of things? If you have good ACT/SAT scores are SAT IIs going to bring you down that much??

Also, colleges say they take 2 or 3 (for example). However, if you take more than that they say they "look" at your highest scores. But don't they see all of them anyway- this might bias them despite the fact that they're only supposed to look at the highest. Do they pretend to just not see the other ones?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on school. I read on several of the UC admission sites and they stated that SAT IIs will be taken in for greater consideration during admission process because the new SAT is too NEW and it might not be an accurate representation of your abilities, so they will weight more on the SAT IIs to see where you stand

Yes. Very important. They measure a lot more than SATs do, so it's harder to explain away a bad score.

They are important.

Okay so can anyone answer this- Also, colleges say they take 2 or 3 (for example). However, if you take more than that they say they "look" at your highest scores. But don't they see all of them anyway- this might bias them despite the fact that they're only supposed to look at the highest. Do they pretend to just not see the other ones?

The SAT IIs are just a part of the application. I know two kids-one going to Pomona in the fall and one a rising junior at Rice, who had relatively low SAT IIs compared to the other scores. They were admitted to a number of highly-selective schools. At many schools the bulk of AP courses are not offered until junior or senior year, and it is harder to do well on the SAT IIs without having had the AP course. The colleges take this into account.

Nonetheless SAT II's usually weigh pretty heavily- probably more so than APs and just below SAT Is

How many SAT IIs do the UC's require? I thought it was two, but is it three for UCLA?

no, they all require 2.

This is the exact quote I found from the UCLA admission website. I don't know if it's the same as other colleges...

"Test scores are also important, as SAT Subject Test scores weigh more heavily than ACT or SAT Reasoning Test scores."
