Importance of Disciplinary Action

I am applying for William and Mary and UVa, and I want to know how much my 5-day suspension will hurt my chances. On the transcript it will only show the fact that it was a “minor” suspension and a generous letter from the principal stating that the suspension should not come into play as it was isolated and minor in nature (not violent or drug-related).

He says that colleges won’t take this into account, however, I’m still worried. Also, I got the suspension due to disrespecting (I got incredibly upset during her planning block) a teacher after receiving a horrendous grade on an IB oral assessment along with a string of low grades in the same week (admittedly, it didn’t hurt me in the end).

Any thoughts on this? This has been extremely nerve-wrecking.

Since it is such a minor offense, and has nothing to do with plagiarism or a criminal offense, my guess is that it won’t be a significant factor in your college admissions process. However, I could certainly be wrong- it is pretty tough to guess how something like this will come across to admissions officers.

My principal assures me that it won’t be a factor, and I’m sure that his letter will help. Though it’s still worrisome, I’m trying to fill myself with some confidence.
