How important are the essays for admission?
I have a 4.0 weighted GPA
2140 SAT
32 ACT
pretty good extra curriculars
The main issue is I haven't written my essays yet so they probably won't be the best quality. I am an out of state also. How important are the essays?

That depends on what you’re applying to. Your numbers are good enough to get you in to most majors but for the more competitive ones your essays will play a bigger role

I feel as though UT does an excellent job at taking every part of the application into consideration and I feel as though each part plays about an equal role. I know someone with a 2300 SAT score who didn’t get into his major of choice while my friend got into that major with a 1900 or so. So, nobody can really say for sure how much of a role they play, but they definitely matter.

out of curiosity, what major did they apply to and what were their approximate class ranks? I’m still used to the old system where certain numbers guaranteed your acceptance…

Numbers can guarantee your acceptance to the school, but not necessarily to a major.

I’mm applyinig to the liberal arts college for psychology. And my second choice is business. My school doesn’t do class ranks but I’m probably not in the very top.

Also, does anybody know about a word count for the essays? I know that it says a page single spaced, but depending on font that could be very different. My essays are about 500 and 600 words.

I would follow the standard of Times New Roman 12-pt font with 1 inch margins. That length sounds fine though. As long as they don’t pass the limit on the online essay submitter.

ok, thanks! I just submitted my application. Hopefully it all works out!

No problem, and good luck with everything!
