How helpful is it to have a 4.0 (uw) in Full IB (with Physics, Social Anthropology, and Math Methods SL as my elective choices/ science and math choices)? I see a lot of AP stuff on all the forums, but my school only offers IB. Will straight A's in Full IB overshadow lower percentile testing (1390/2160, 31 ACT) for top tier schools like Duke, Stanford, Dartmouth, etc? Anything else about the impact of Full IB?

bbbbbbbbuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmppppppppppp!!!

I was hoping the same thing, as I am in the same boat. However, previous posts have indicated that a full IB diploma will not overshadow lower SAT scores. I wish it wasn't true, but that is the word on the streets. Sorry.

You won't have an IB diplomat till the end of senior year. Its just like taking honor/AP courses but with no tests results so far.

Full IB will be seen as taking the most demanding classes

Full IB, if available to you...looks much stronger than AP, regardless of whether you've earned the diploma(if your IB program has a strong reputation).

Just as if you would have taken all AP courses.

Except with IB, you get to do more work! Basically, the colleges will look at them the same way.

personally, even though a little biased, i think no one REALLY knows how much work a full IB Diploma candidate has unless you are one. I've taken AP classes before, and i do believe it is NOTHING compared to 7 hard-core, time consuming classes, each with its own individual hardships.

I love the Extended Essay, CAS hours, and internal asessments that go along with the Diploma! My school does have a good reputation with Full IB, i think. We usually produce 25 to 30 full IB students (out of 300-350 students), with this year seeing the possibility of near 50! I'd be curious to see how AP stacks up against IB, but it does seem AP helps a lot more for SAT II's since both tests are conducted by CB.

add these to daily class/home work and tests/quizzes etc and them try to prove to me how this isn't 10 times harder than taking AP classes and just taking some test in May

This is my 7th year of IB, so if anyone is biased, it should be me. IB is all I know so it is hard for me to draw comparisons to being full IB versus taking just honors or all AP classes.

For what it's worth, in 6th grade we started out with about 250 IB kids. As a senior, only about 30 (from the original group) remain if that tells you anything. Most people wanted to get out of IB so they could "have a life" although most went on to take all AP courses and such.

I have ful IB diploma, and man is it tough stuff. Not that the classes are that hard, they are don't take me wrong but they're manageable stuff, but they have alot of assignments and time consuming projects. Right now my hardest class is probably Math HL and Econ. HL. But I love both.

Another questions: I've heard about t shirts and coffe mugs that say "IB screwed" or something like that. LOL I find them so histerically funny ( see what diploma has done to me...) where can I get one?

i agree with...what every single person has statedddddd

Somewhat back to the original question...Does Full IB help a lot in the applicant pool? On the IB website, there is the percentages of Full IB students vs. those not in it, and the percentages for Full IB students at the top tier colleges are much higher (in some cases over 40%). Anyone have any evidence or ideas on this?

I'm an IB Diploma Programme candidate and I speak on behalf of the IBO at conferences. From what I've gathered, the IB is revered for its holistic approach, something not available if you just go for the IB certificates or AP examinations instead of the full IB diploma.

Maybe it doesnt have to be direct related to the fact that they took full diploma. Most of the people who take full IB are overachievers and hard workers by nature, at least at my school, so maybe their general app. was really strong.

Agreed...but with such a competitive pool in today's admissions, not taking part in the most demanding curriculum isn't helpful.
