Importance of location and ranking in choosing college

Hello,

I am a prospective CS major and have to choose between USC and Georgia Tech. I have already looked at most factors that would influence my decision, but these two factors are giving me trouble. Georgia Tech has the higher ranked program (by about 5-7 places depending on which ranking you look at). USC is closer to Silicon Valley.

I don't know how important these factors are. Does the higher ranking mean better career prospects from GaTech? Does USC's proximity to SV mean that more tech companies recruit there? Please help me out here.

Silicon Valley (and its San Francisco extension) hires extensively from Georgia Tech. It’s a top college for Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, and indeed it has a better reputation in CS than USC.

Are both roughly the same cost to you and your parents?

Yes. I am an international student, so both turn out to be similar in terms of cost.
