Importance of SAT II's

Sorry if this has previously been discussed- I am new to this particular forum. How important are the SAT II's to the regular decision application? I know that they are "recommended"- but are they really necessary if you do well on the SAT reasoning test plus the ACT with writing?

I'm curious about this too. SAT > SAT II generally though.

yea the nu site says sat II's are reccomended but not required. I think this just means if you take them and do well they will put you above some of your competition, but if you dont take them you wont be at a disadvantage.

Hahaha if you take them and do poorly, then does it hurt you? I took Bio M my sophomore year and barely hit a 700. That was pretty sad... My other SAT II is okay though... Would my Bio score kill my evaluation? xD

I actually would really like to know thistoo.. i just got back my US History results and it was definitely less than spectacular, mainly because I just started AP history and we haven't gotten very far... any one know?

Most colleges use "recommended" SAT 2's primarily to validate the accuracy of GPAs from poorly known high schools. If applying from large "feeder" HS's where course tracks and their relative rigor are well known to the admissions staff (as well as grade inflation/deflation), SAT 2's will matter a good deal less.

Hmm, Ive gotten so many different answers on this question. I think taking them will put me at a disadvantage, but If I can I'll take them in Dec, wait for results, and rush send them if they're good.

I live in IL though, so I hope you're right about that.

SAT II's have a vastly greater predicative capability than the SAT Reasoning Test does. Take that for what you will.
