Importance of SAT Writing Score in UC Admissions

Many colleges pay less attention to, or even entirely ignore the SAT writing section compared to the other sections on the SAT.

What is the University of California's policy on this?

They consider it as important as the other sections. Remember that the reason the writing section was added was largely because of UC, which didn’t think it was hard enough (among other criticisms) and threatened to remove it from its requirements. As a result, the College Board changed it a bit and added the writing section. So it’s expected that UC would consider it as important as the other sections.

It’s ridiculous considering the SAT essay is solely based on how much you write. It doesn’t say there’s a certain amount to be written and the Princeton Review book says 4 paragraphs is fine, but even if you write an amazing 4 paragrapher you’ll get an 8/12 for sure.

Not quite. You can fill up the entire space and still not do well. It’s simply that longer essays tend to be more developed. What’s ridiculous about the SAT essay is that the topics are so boring, it’s difficult to write about them.
