Hey everyone, I was wondering what the importance of the PSAT was? I'm not taking it tomorrow, since I already took the SAT last week (so I wouldn't be taking the PSAT for practice) and I do not require a scholarship. Other than those two reasons, why else would someone take it?

No reason. Take the ACT instead.

Well, even if you don’t need a scholarship, National Merit Commended/Semi-Finalist/Finalist are nice things to have on your resume. Scoring well on the PSAT also gets you some college spam.

Well I know my school district MAKES everyone take the PSAT Junior AND sophomore year… and If you’re GT you take it 9th too.
I know the School districts around here probably do too.
I mean, my school district is no slouch…its ranked one of the best in the state.
But Plano up North is a phenomenal school district (they have 3 Junior-Senior high schools, each with OVER 2000 kids (OVER 1000 kids per class)) so I would think it only logical to also have them to do the same since they’re a better school district.

Plus it’s good practice.

BUT I GOT RAPED today D:

I know this is an older thread, but just another question: do notifications for merit scholarship acceptance come in time for college apps anyways? When is the earliest they get announced?

National Merit is announced in fall of senior year (for those who take PSAT in junior year) - generally in Sept/Oct.
