Importance of Your Intended Major

Hey everyone,

I am wondering how important your "intended major" is when applying to transfer. I've seen on transfer applications to put what your intended major is and to explain why that is so in your personal statement. My question is, does it make any difference what major you intend to be? Is one major "sexier" than another?

To give some context to what I'm saying. I'm applying to transfer to Notre Dame for the fall 08 semester to be a 1st semester sophomore. My "intended" major is theology. Does this make me less attractive because ND may have a lot of theology majors? Does this make me look more attractive because ND may not have a lot of theology majors?

Thanks for your responses, I really appreciate it.

it depends on the college/major. i don't know anything about ND.

Colleges generally can only admit x amount of transfer students.

That being said, some of the majors are certainly more difficult to get accepted than others. Example : Two of my friends applied to Berkeley with identical stats, from the same college. One was English and the other was CS -
Needless to say, the English major was accepted and the CS major was denied. Major selection is important when considering a transfer - I would definitely look at the common data set of ND and see how many were accepted under theology and act accordingly.

Best of Luck!
