My senior daughter is applying to Notre Dame and wasn't sure what to put for the question, "What is your intended major?" She wants science-business, but a friend told me that a lot of students want that and it is a more competitive admission pool. Her high school work is solid with a 4.3 gpa. 7 AP's, top 5%, leadership positions, and a 1340 SAT. But she is not a legacy, nor athlete, nor minority so the question is important since we don't want to make it any harder for her to get in.
Does anyone know if Notre Dame accepts or categorizes applicants based on the intended major? Her other second choice, Bucknell, does accept with regard to intended major.

i have no idea......im wondering the same thing i hope i find the answer in this thread

According to the school website, you are applying for a spot in First Years Studies, not any particular major...

well that does make sense i suppose, due to the way their education is set up....but when I was talking to someone who works there and I told him what i was interested he was excited because the Science Dept wants more of my ethnicity.....so i guess it cant hurt

I was told that it doesn't matter for the initial round of admissions, but that when they are taking people from the waitlist it could come into play.

Sounds like notre dame guards the relevance of the choice of intended major in the application process. Some schools, like Bucknell and Penn, make it nearly impossible to transfer into the management major once a student is admitted. Since I am not hearing of this same difficulty, I will assume that Notre Dame doesn't close the major to Sophomores who had not indicated a businees major.
