IMPORTANT: Is it OK to write about the same topic for long and short rspnse?

I'm applying to the university of washington and they require 2 essays, one 500-650 words and one 250 words.

In my long one I wrote about my involvement in 4-H, is it OK to write about 4-H as well for my short response essay??

Is this an ABSOLUTE no-no? I haven't read/heard anything discussing this so I'm curious and don't feel like shooting myself in the foot.

Thanks.

I personally don't think that's a very good idea. Colleges want a COMPLETE picture of who you are, and just talking about one thing where you could instead tell them about all the different things that make you stand out just seems like a waste of valuable application real estate. I suggest you pick a more important achievement that's closer to your heart for your long essay, and something with extreme impact that can explain itself briefly for your short one.

thanks sree.

What about addressing my involvement in music? I am a dedicated musician, especially when it comes to the drums. I have ten years under my belt.

But I also addressed my musicianship in the activities/awards section. Is this too much?

Show your vulnerable/humorous/sensitive side...and music sounds great! I suggest pick an isolated music related incident and work outwards from there. Tell a story, hook your reader. Good luck with it! :)
