Don't throw away your freshman year.

I know how you are feeling. The agony of opening one rejection letter after another as all choices but your safety run out. The first thought in my mind was "transfer"

And that's okay. But there is something very important you have to do for yourself, and you can actively choose to do it.

And that is give your safety school a chance. Not necessarily because you think you'll stay there, but because that is the only way you will have an enjoyable freshman year. If you tromp around campus on a daily basis regretting the fact you are there and cursing its existence, you won't get out and meet people, you wont' interact with your professors, you won't learn all that I'm sure your safety is capable of teaching you. Your distaste for your safety will have become a very unenjoyable self-fulfilling prophecy.

Instead, do this. Enter your school saying "I know I'm probably going to transfer, but I'm going to give my school a chance, if only so that I can have a good time here"

You only get 4 years of college. And college is a special time bats eyelashes So don't throw one year away.

I transferred out of my freshman year school and I'm glad I did, it wasn't a good fit for me and I'm much happier now. But I had a good or at least interesting time there and I'm not sure if given the opportunity if I would have done it differently.

the suggestion is very agreeable~~
im a high school senior now~~in the situation u mentioned
thank u~

I totally 10000% agree

haha, i almost wrote this exact same thread last night. well i wrote about half, then got distracted, but obviously it's an important enough idea to be manifested.

so yea, please, please, please follow claysoul's advice. i didn't really, and i regret it. i was "planning to transfer" like so many people in the cc transfer section lately, and have stuck with that decision, but i'm sure my experience this year would have been at least a little better if i'd have gone into it with a more open, positive mind-set.

even if you do still transfer, you will have a more enjoyable, productive year. and plus, you will increase your slim transfer chances so much by being a student who was highly involved in the school organizations and community, active and at least pretending to be interested in classes, had wonderful, positive relationships with professor's, etcccc.....

your in college! hooray!

well said :)

i mean to date some of my fav profs and classes were at this "horrrrible" (quotes cuz it wasn't at all!) school i didn't want to go to.

i didn't click with a lot of people, but i did make one or two wonderful friends who i cherish.

There are always silver linings. You have the choice and the opportunity to make a good situation out of a seemingly bad or undesireable circumstance.

Don't go into college with the intention of transferring. You can make the best of any place you go.

I applied early decision to University of Richmond and did not get in. I was disappointed, but financially was expecting to have to go to one of my state school options anyways (Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee, and Mississippi), which I wasn't exactly looking forward to. I chose Ole Miss expecting it to be the best of the 4 evils, and throughout the first semester realized I hated it. But the point is, I gave it a chance. I am 99% sure that if I had gone to UT, I would have loved it an never even considered transferring.

But consider this: if I hadn't gone to such an awful school, I would have never realized how academically-minded I am, and wouldn't be going to a school far more challenging and prestigious than I ever dreamed of going to.

Great advice. It's definitely something to keep in the back of your mind everyday.

As a senior in high school, I've felt that way at times since I most likely will not see many of my peers next year. The other times when I've let go of that mindset and enjoyed the simple pleasures of high school have given me the best memories of this year.
