Unless the reasons are: significant financial crisis, you can't stand the living situation (rains 10 months a year, for example), I would not rec. it.

It's kind of funny to see these high school seniors already contemplating about transfer before even setting foot on their respective college. But I don't blame them. Because, I too, felt devastated after getting rejected from H. Anyways..

With decisions only weeks away, I am drunk with fatigue and exhaustion.
And it's finals week too....sigh...

I wouldn't recommend it right off the bat, no -- they should give their current school a chance. However, they should also know that in the event that they are miserable after their first semester, transfer app deadlines begin around March 1st, and you are required to have professor recs. Don't blow off your current school -- you're going to need it to get good recs from (most likely two) professors. Begin essays over Christmas break, request recs, get your scores sent. You don't want to decide at the last minute that you're miserable and do a bad job on your apps.

Personally, I knew I was unhappy first semester, but was not sure if I was going to transfer. My mother actually made me start researching other schools just in case -- and boy, am I glad I listened to my mom.

i got in ed and had no intention of transferring. by christmas break, i didn't want to go back. its certainly gotten better, but i think that the transfer process can certainly be a positive if unenjoyable thing (pretty much how i feel about freshman year). but definitely you shouldn't step on campus waiting to transfer or it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
