Please post the name of the school as well.

whynotmitoo -- you do realize that schools don't go to the waitlist until after 4/10, when the revisit days are over and kids have to make their decisions and send in their enrollment contracts?

That makes sense, however, my d got taken off a waitlist at a private day school three days after acceptances were sent out and did not have to wait the full month. Maybe, the bassoonist or cello player they wanted opted early for another school and they went to the next person on their list!

It does happen, but very rarely. Most schools offer more positions than they can actually handle, so they have to have quite a few turn down the offer before they go to the waitlist. In the case of a special talent, that might be different.

I just didn't want the kids that post here to be eagerly anticipating a call in the next week or so -- or feel crushed if they don't hear anything soon.

Yes, it might raise expectations unnecessarily. It might be more useful for applicants for next year's pool to post after April 10

Son #2 already off waitlist for Milton---now we have decide if he will go there or another top school--

How can ? Did you send in any additional material ?

Momof2sons: that seems surprising, but good news for you! If they switched from waitlist to accept within one week, why not just give the acceptance in the first place? As someone else said, it does all seem like a "nasty business" that goes on here.

Our concerns with Milton (we got waitlisted too): many day students; seems to be undergoing some flux, with headmaster selection, and interim head, etc. Not that these may affect your son - Milton seems to have great academics, many athletic opportunities, close to Boston, etc.

Good luck with your decision!

We hadn't even sent our card back asking to have our son placed on the waitlist--we weren't sure we wanted to go through the whole process of waiting since he has fabulous opportunity at another school.
He was sought out by Milton initially and recruited so maybe that is why he got off the list so quickly
