Important quesitons

upenn suggest student who continues their legacy to apply early, is this a sugetion that people without legacy should apply later since ppl with legacy will more likely get accepted. (non of my parents went to college)

some colleges say you can attach addional resume of awards and ec but online apps does not have space for such material. does penn not support sendint in another resume

where could i find info on the professors at upenn? and how is everyone approaching that question.

the hobby quesiton. did you guys use list form. or essay form, the character limit really doesnt allow me to write in essay form. did u guys write only one hobby or many

I'm interested in the answer to some of these questions too (hobby & professors questions).

No. People without legacy will still have a better chance in ED. Penn is one of the schools that look you more favorably in ED.

Again, resumes do not help your application unless in extraordinary circumstances. The application has all the information they want. There are times when you would rather go to an encyclopedia article rather than a full length book.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_University_of_Pennsylvania_people is a start.

I don't think its a big deal. If I were to write about one hobby, I'd go with essay form. If many, I'd go with more of a list.

thanks a lot for ur answers
for the pennsylvania faculty one how can u avoid being generic

I. Decide on a (possible) college major
II. Go to the corresponding department website
III. Browse the list of faculty. Many will have department or personal websites that describe their research interests and publications
IV. Pick somebody that sounds interesting
V. Read one of their books or a couple related articles.
VI. Write it up!

is ur major binding

No - you can change majors any time. But at some point, after taking a certain number of coures, you'll be more or less comitted. But certainly not as a freshman.

If Im answering the "hobby" and "professor" questions on the paper app, can i attach a typed up answer like I will do for the essay questions? and for u guys who are doing it online whats the word count limit for the "hobby" and "professor" questions. thanks

I love changing majors.

I've been a:

PPE major (Philosophy, Politics, Economics)
IR major (International Relations)
EALC (East Asian Languages & Civilizations)
CEAS (CEAS's East Asian Area Studies)

It's definitely a smart idea to send a supplementary resume because there is not much space of the application to fit everything. Besides using Penn's website for professor information you should go to ratemyprofessor.com it's soooo helpful. Just look in a department you're interested in and you should be able to find someone good to write about.

supplementary resume? penn does not say anywhere u can do that, unlike many other applications. it is looked down upon. also if u are doing online, where do u submit that, sent it in separately?

on the directions on form 1B, it says that supplemental listings or an activities resume can be submitted, just as long as you fill in the questions on the form also........which brings me to my question :) ...for the activity question (#1), can we list summer programs there also? if so, for hours per week can we put 168 if it was a residential program?

also for question 11 on form 1B, if we're taking the same classes the entire year, are we suppose to fill in the spring column w/ the same thing too or just leave it blank?

yes to both of ur questions...i would assume...to be safe
out of curiocity...wat college is eveyone applyin in upenn?
