Allright, so how would I go about sending my colleges a portfolio of my best work? As you might have read from my chances thread, I have a lot of journalism experience. I want to send colleges my written work from my internship last summer and some of my current freelancing stuff! Do I just put it in an evelope and send it away? I want to make sure they read it because it's really important!

One of my schools is through Common App. But I already turned in the application. I applied to: UMichigan, UFlorida, Univ of S California, UMiami, Boston Univ (COMMON APP), and UWash.

Yes, just send it. I believe most colleges provide a supplemental materials form with their applications, but even if they don't have one, feel free to send in your portfolio. A lot of people do it. Just make sure your writing is all clearly organized and labeled. Resist the urge to send in more than a few pages. Put a cover sheet on the portfolio with a short explanation of what you are sending, along with your full name as it appears on your Common App, plus your basic info (SSN, high school, address). Do not fold it all up and stick it in a small envelope; use a big page-size envelope.

Also, if this is a big EC for you, definitely include a paragraph or two about it. You could talk about how much time you spent on it, different programs you've participated in, what it means to you, what you've learned, and how you may continue writing in college. This will underscore your interest and make it seem more "put together".
