Everyone I have seen or talked to has gotten a 35 or below on their English section of the ACT Did anyone get a 36 or know of someone who got a 36 on English?

just to reiterate - NO - 18 & 18 = 35. It will be interesting to see the actual tests when they come back.

so did anyone get a 36 in English on the September ACT?

Yes, my D got 36 in English. Why do you ask?

Yes, my D got 36 in English in March too. The English section score is not a simple addition of the 2 subscores. The 2 subscores are based on different curves that may allow 1 wrong answer quite often and yet give you 18. While the English section score is based on a separated curve that you are not likely to get 36 if you missed one. In the same test that my D took, there are other students get 35 (18+18) too.

i got a 36 but hahah it’s just my strong point

billcsho lots of kids have gotten 36 E in the past including my D x 2. Bparker253 was asking about the September 2013 ACT.

I got a 36 on the Sept. 2013 ACT, which nicely balanced my lower math and science scores haha. Sometimes people have perfect 18/18 subscores but not a 36, which is weird but I guess that’s the ACT.

@honeybee63, the curves for English is pretty much the same. I am just telling you why one get 18+18=35. There are absolutely others getting 36 in September. I have not heard there is one ACT without all 36 section scores in history. It seems only you asked specifically about the September ACT not the OP, at least not explicitly.

@billscho, if OP didn’t specify that he meant to. This thread was started based on discussions on the results threads after scores came out on Sunday night. There was no one on CC who had received a 36 E on this test - that’s why he was asking. In fact so far the only reported 36 E for September 2013 are on this page. Anyway I think the Q is answered.

Yes to clarify I was talking about the Sept 2013 ACT. I had received a 35, along with pretty much every other person in every score thread. Apparently there are people who got 36s, but it seems like there were a lot more 35s (1 really hard question?) I was one of those people with 2 18s

^ In every ACT, there are many getting 18+18 in English with one wrong and get 36. If there is no one get all the answers correct at all, then the one got one wrong will still get 36 due to the nature of the grading system. If one got all answers correct, for sure he/she will get 36 in any section. Sometimes, there may be a tricky question that produce much less 36. English section is the most unforgiven among all.
