Went to one of the Realize Richmond days this week and came away with the following thoughts:

The administration seems to be flexible and very willing to accommodate their students. They also claim to pay a lot of individualized attention, and I believe it!

Before my visit, I had pictures of guys in blazers and girls in high heels and pearls walking around the campus. The kids I saw were much more casual, not stuck up or too preppy. 85% come from outside of Virginia so, for a Jersey boy, I didn't get a super Southern vibe. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

Is it the most beautiful campus around? Unfortunately, after you have seen U of San Diego nothing else looks that impressive. Not to say that it isn't very nice. The rolling campus is secluded within an upscale neighborhood and has a private feel, but it's just 6 miles from the center of Richmond. A good combination, I think. Our tour guide said that UR has a patent on the architectural style, Collegiate Gothic, and was designed by the same guy who worked on the Princeton campus. Even the new buildings, and there are many of them, are built in the same style. The impressive new science center just opened and the cafeteria makeover will be ready for fall 2006.

I was kind of surprised by the Greek setup - there are frats and sororities, and they are popular - 30-50% of students join - but they don't have resident houses to live in. The school supplies 'lodges' (didn't see one) for meetings, parties, etc. Sort of weird.

Hope y'all find the above helpful!!
