Miserable miserable miserable miserable miserable

How miserable and unorganized and pointless was experience Richmond. I was planning to go here before this day but now I'm not so sure. I mean they didn't even take the accepted students on a full tour and to see what the dorms look like?

Could it have been the rain? Everything looking gray and the tours and dorms limited due to water, mud, thunder and lightening?

Still a valid point since you traveled there. Are you able to re-visit tomorrow, or add in an unexpected overnight stay just to see U of R again and clarify more in your mind? Check out the dining halls and the libraries? Is it spring break for their students?

Lots of people love the University of Richmond from what I hear as a VA native. Give it a second day? Good luck.

I agree , it was a complete nightmare . I cant believe how unorganized it was . It was by far the most unorganized school I have visited . Good food tho…

Very surprised to hear this! Last year’s was very organized and very well received. Sorry to hear that this year the school didn’t show it’s true colors.

Not sure what happened this year?! Last year my experience was great and sealed the deal for me! Just goes to show that first impressions can be very important.

Wow, I hate to hear this.

Anyone care to elaborate?

“Miserable” - maybe the weather, but definitely NOT our time at Experience Richmond. Our family of 4 flew in from Upstate NY. The first time “dad” and “little brother” saw the school; DD and my third visit. We were completely impressed by the total experience - uber friendly and extremely informative, well-spoken admissions staff/administrators/students/profs. DD had fun with the “ice breaker,” small student group exercise. We all went on a tour (and saw Lora Robins dorm), were surprised by the number of options in the d-hall, and DD went to “class” X 2 - and even “little brother” participated in the class discussion. Heard about housing, the CDC, Study Abroad options, and various student support program; stopped in at the Student Organizations Fair and met the Debate Team and the Mock Trial team (DD’s interests); walked around some on our own - even watched part of a lax game. For us, the perfect balance between organized, structured activities and “free time” to poke around campus. DD can’t wait to get to UR in August, and we can completely see her thriving there. Well worth the long haul to get to Richmond.

thanks, itsmygop, and I am glad you wrote. Our daughter worked at Experience Richmond (she’s a sophomore) and when I passed along miserable’s comments, she said she found that hard to believe. Her roommate was one of the tour guides. She said the weather was awful, but the rest was classic Richmond… always friendly and well done. I am so sorry someone had a bad experience, but that happens.

We went to Experience Richmond. Our son was accepted and it was our first visit. As expected the campus was beautiful! Students were especially friendly. He enjoyed the breakout icebreaker. Saw the dorms. I loved the library. He liked going to the “class.” YES…Food was amazing. He wanted to put down his deposit right there but we told him to think about it a week. Had dinner in downtown Richmond. I suppose the admissions staff couldve been more helpful in steering us to restaurants etc in the area but we found our way…went to the “canal area” and ate at a a very friendly and beautiful restaurant called “tobacco something or other”. (waiter was shocked he wasn’t interested in VCU)
Only drawback to Richmond (which is NOT a concern for my son) : TRAFFIC around DC. We are from New Jersy and thought we saw everything until we sat in traffic going south and going north through DC. Any suggestions from anyone else? THankfully the Amtrak Line from Richmond stops near our home. Our son will have to take advantage of that if he wants to come home.

We attended Experience Richmond last Saturday. In spite of the rain, we were impressed with the organized and professional staff and professors. Although we did not choose to tour, we saw others touring, so we know that tours were offered.

@Petpal You must be from my neck of the woods–Princeton area. I took Amtrak home once and never did it again. Thanks to a long stop in D.C. and track problems along the way, it took me 7 hours on the train. From NJ to Richmond, it was usually a 4 1/2 to 5 hour drive. I took 95 all the way, and 495 around Wilmington. The traffic really depends on the time of day. Sundays are horrid either way around D.C. Other days, if you leave right after rush hour, you should be fine getting in and out.

Add me to the people that enjoyed Expierience Richmond. This was my only second time on campus, and the other time was in the summer when no students were there. Besides the weather, which the rain did stop after a while, I thought it was very well ran and everybody was really nice. My future classmates seem smart and cool, the campus was beautiful as usual, and we even got a free t shirt haha! In my schedule there was definitely tours being held with dorms being shown, so I know somebody already brought that up I’m just reiterating the fact that there were tours. So I was happy and even though I was ED going to Expierience Richmond just made me THAT much more happy and relieved about my choice. Only problem: I still have to wait till August to get back. August better hurry up

we are in Princeton area! Hillsborough! Thanks!

Wait, petpal, I’m from Boro, too. From glancing at your profile and other posts, I’m guessing your son goes to Imac? If that’s the case I probably wouldn’t know him, but I never would’ve guessed that I’d come across someone from town on here.

The only other person I know of who applied to UR was waitlisted. Of course, there might be others that I don’t know of…

We also went to Experience Richmond and it was a terrific experience - especially compared to the admitted student day at GW that followed. It was organized, there was ample opportunity to explore the campus, eat (for free!) in its dining hall, meet students, etc. Students were friendly, the day offered different options of interest to both prospective students and parents, and we were given suggestions for restaurants in the area. The only problem was that the day was too short - we would have loved to have a couple of extra hours because we didn’t have time to take the offered tour of the dorms, but our very friendly tour guide offered to take us to her dorm. There were staff and students everywhere asking if we needed help or directions… couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

the tour was awesome…our guide was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic…very thorough and open in his experience at UR…absolutely great! very well done…that being said you need to also dig on your own to get an inside look into all the buildings. Definately worth checking out, worth the 6 hour drive from NJ.
