Improve ACT Science and Math from 33 and 27 to 36.

I'm a junior in HS, and I took the ACT the first time in September. My composite score was below my PLAN range of 28-32, and I got a 26.
Science-33
Math-27
English-25
Reading-18

I've taken a couple practice tests and my Reading for those were 30 and 28, so I might have just been having a bad day, or I wasn't used to it.

On the practice test for English I took, I got a 31, and should end up scoring higher in the future because of silly mistakes made this time around.

Math is the most stable for me, scoring a 26 on the practice, but after looking over my wrong answers, the correct answer and my mistake had become obvious to me.

In all of my practice Science tests, my score has dropped (29, 27, 23) as opposed to my 33 on the actual test.

My goal is actually to get a 36 on both Math and Science on my highest-scoring test my junior year, but my Science keeps on dropping! It feels way more difficult now than it was during the real test. I'm doing practice tests often, but my scores are obviously not showing it. Is there anything that anybody recommends to help me with this?

On top of that, I know that the Math score can be raised the most easily through studying, which is also why bringing my Math to a 36 is included in my goal as well. (Not to mention that I'm going into meteorology, and math and science are extremely important.)

I know they sound like lofty goals, but I'm willing to spend the time on it! If anyone could help me, especially with my dropping Science score, that would be awesome!

You need to improve your reading and writing scores because anticipating a 36 on both math and science is unrealistic. I scored 35 on science and I only missed one question. I scored 33 on math and I only missed 3 questions. Your best bet is to focus on improving your lowest scores by taking several practice tests under that same conditions of the real test. You should be able to improve your writing and english scores enough to get to your goal.

I’m having the same problem too, my reading was at a 30 on the real act, but on the practice tests ive been taking it has been 25 - 27. :frowning:
If you want to increase reading try to read it thoroughly for the first two passages, when you run out of time speed read, thats what I did.

Science is data interpretation and is based on your reading of the data. You need to work on your reading which in turn will help you pick up the data understanding faster.

I agree with rlpak14. Improving your scores to 36 (especially that math score) will be difficult (though not impossible). Focus on raising your lowest scores, especially that reading score. Even if you get 36m and 36s, if you don’t bring up those reading and english scores you’ll still have a 28-31 (25e, 36m, 18-28r, 36s) which will look bad because of the really uneven spread. And this is the best case scenario.
On the other hand, if you work hard to improve those lowest scores (while also working on your higher scores, but not obsessing over a perfect score) you should have a much nicer spread and a same or higher composite score.

for those of you who getting upwards of 32 in math, do you do first pass, 2nd pass? my problem is I know the math, but run out of time.

You must first do all the ones that are no brainers that you can do quickly. Do not try to do all of the questions in order because if you take too much time on one question it will affect you on the easy questions because you won’t have enough time to complete.
Once you have answered your easy questions then go back and do the difficult ones, but do not spend more than 45 seconds, if you can’t do it within this time go to the next question and so on. On third pass you have to guess on the ones you have not completed.
