Without APs, it’s hard to say you have a shot. Come back when you take them at the middle or end of junior year.

@AnnieBeats OK I will take 3 AP in 11th and 3 in 12th. We have 9 available and I will take all but AP English 11, AP English 12, and AP Comp Science. So far I have all honors and mandatory electives.

English should be the one course that you make sure that you take.

@AnnieBeats I am definitely taking English but not AP, its a honors class.

You should definitely be taking AP English if it’s available. If there was an AP that would be required for students, it probably would be AP English. Take it or find a way to take it by all means necessary.

@AnnieBeats I cannot change my Honors to AP this year but I will definitely consider it next year.

Good idea. Provided you get A’s in these courses, I would say that you have a decent shot at all these schools. It’s a very balanced list. Good job :)

@AnnieBeats Thanks

Hi -

Your grades could probably be a bit higher, but they won’t be a deal breaker. Have you taken the PSAT? If so what was your score. I agree with @AnnieBeats, take AP English. As a potential finance major you also need to show that you are not afraid of quantitative (ie math). Can you please elaborate how much math you’ve taken and your grades?

Next year focus on some ECs that are related to finance. I see you are doing an internship, which is good. Try to find other “finance” related things to put on the EC list.

@sgopal2 At the end of my senior year I will have taken everything up to AP Calc B/c and AP Stats. My grades have been A-

@Lacoste Math grades and rigor seems quite good. Keep it up.

Any finance/quant related prizes/awards/competitions that you can enter next year? Have you done any independent projects related to Finance that you can highlight?

@sgopal2 No individual awards for finance but I will try to make it to states for DECA and FBLA

@Lacoste: Have you considered any of the finance related summer programs? IE Wharton LEAD

@sgopal2 I will certainly look into that, any other suggestions that I can look up?

High School Fed Challenge, National Personal Finance Challenge

agree with @AnnieBeats , you should take quite a bit of AP’s considering that they are offered at your school.
Work on the GPA, your Junior year is probably the most crucial year of your high school career. Keep that upward trend. Continue leadership in your EC’s and you should look fine for most of those colleges on your list.

Admit to Villanova, Fordham, Indiana, NYU

going ED to Emory will definitely help your chances

BC, UM, and UVA may be tough to get into without strong AP course load

hope this helps!
