Congrats to everyone who got into IMSA!! I am very anxious because I haven’t received my letter yet.
I read about the waitlist in an article that details the official admissions process and it isn’t ranked. If a student who was accepted chooses not to go or has their offer rescinded before the first day of classes, they will call someone in out of the waitpool. The reason they don’t have an official and ordered list with rankings is that they have to keep certain numbers in terms of gender, ethnicity, and area of Illinois that the student comes from. When a student leaves, they will offer the spot to someone who closely matches that student. @scrunchies
Overall, you shouldn’t worry about the IMSA placement exams in general. They’re to insure you’re placed into the correct class for your math level. From what I remember (which isn’t much lmao), the placement exam seems more like several years of math concepts grouped together into one mass final (including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II/Trig, maybe Calculus? idk). It’s ok if you don’t understand some questions, I don’t think you’re supposed to get all of them correct (unless you’ve taken a lot of math classes already lmao).
@birdie02 are you a current IMSA student? If so, do you remember anything about foreign language placement exams?
@7bean3 At least for the spanish placement exam, there was a multiple choice section and there was an essay portion. I remember there being present, and preterite, but I don’t remember there being future or conditional, etc. That was probably because I didn’t even know what future and conditional conjugations were, but I highly doubt they’d put much of that on there.
Did anyone else get their letters? I thought the letter came out the first week of May.
What subject do the other placement tests cover? For the math test does it go up to Algebra 2? Geometry? Pre-calculus? Also is the science placement test just physics? Is it also chem or bio?
For the math placement exam it goes up to at least Algebra 2/Pre-Calculus (possibly Calculus? I’m not sure). Last year (I’m a sophomore) students were able to take science placement exams in both physics and/or chemistry (separately), but not biology. From what I remember, the physics placement exam tests students on mechanics, not other areas.
Thanks a lot @birdie02! Congratulations to anyone else who got in. Even if you didn’t I hope you are perpetually successful on anything that you come across. I’m looking forward to meeting you guys this coming year.
Is anyone else stressing about placement tests?
Hey @7bean3! I live in the Chicago suburbs in Cook County, and I am a girl. Do I fit the requirements?
@Shambhu2784 I’m open to anybody, so if you want to talk and see if we might be a good match that’d be great!
And if any of you were trying to use that link for the registration that they sent with the acceptance letters, if you type “soph20” instead of “soph21” it will bring you to the page. They have updated most of the forms so that they are the ones for our class, they just haven’t changed the web link.
My dad handed me a letter from imsa and i fr thought it was a joke because i had may first circled on my calendar thousand times
Hey, I’m from Plainfield (like 30 mins away from the school) and I’m a girl, so prospective roommates message me!
@nnltmr and @Shambhu2784 I can’t figure out how to start a new message, but if you message me or join the google hangouts we started (the link is on page 15) I’m looking for a roommate and would love to talk
I’m literally so scared, because I really want the 8th grade interview and I don’t think I’ll get it because of my low sat scores
Congrats to everyone who got accepted, I hope to meet some of you guys during placement testing or at school. And to everyone who didn’t get in, just remember that your future is not determined by what high school you go to. So I wish everyone good luck on their future endeavors, whether you go to IMSA or not.
@everyone What is the IMSA 8th grade interview. Is it when you get asked to come over the summer and they will give feedback on your application? Please and thanks!
If any girls are looking for possible roommates, dm and we can add you to a google hangout where a group of us are talking!
I got in as a skippie. Do you guys think I should go in as a skippie? I’ve heard the academics are very rigorous and that the year difference has a social effect. I think I can handle the academics. If I don’t go this year, can I ask the admissions board for a deferral of one year, or is this not possible? If I’m taking a gap year before going to IMSA, I’ll be going to Whitney Young. Thanks in advance. I can post stats if need be!
