IMSA Applicant Class of 2022

Do you know if we have to send ALL of our SAT scores?

Hey everyone, I know submission has already happened ,but I still have questions if anyone want to answer them. Do people get in with a lower gpa? Like a 3.82?

Wants*

Yes

Is there anyone who’s in 9th grade who was asked to come in for an interview? I was and I was very shocked, I didn’t know they did interviews for 9th graders.

Just a question, but what do you need to put in your application? Is there a limit to the number of clubs and awards you can put in your application? Do you get to access your teacher reports, and finally, is there any essay prompt for your application?

@pranets251
-You’re application is a mixture of extracurriculars, awards, grades, SAT test scores, recommendations, and essays.
-There is a limit to the number of activities and awards. Of the top of my head, I remember it being 3 awards and 5 activities.
-If you use the online recommendation/evaluation sender, provided by IMSA, then you can’t see your teacher recs.
-There are four essays prompts/questions.

@BL1234
Thanks! It means a lot!

@pranets251
You’re Welcome!

I got a low sat score (around 1100s) do I still have a chance at getting into IMSA?

@wickedstar1390 Yes! IMSA’s admissions process is very holistic so a “lower” sat score doesn’t mean you don’t have a chance of getting in. In 2016, 90 people applied with a score range between 1000-1100 and 30 got in.

@wickedstar1390 You still do have a chance of getting into IMSA because the SAT is only one aspect of admissions. If your essays, teacher recs, and grades are strong, then you will still have a good chance of getting in.

I have a student in middle school. I was looking into the requirements for IMSA. Looks like you have to apply before 9th grade. Math requirement seems to be covered. Just wondering how everyone completed the HS science requirement if you are still in middle school. What online science classes are used?

@rchatter I applied to IMSA as an 8th grader during the Class of 2021 application cycle and I took a high school level science class at the Keystone National High School. However, there are a variety of programs that may suit your child’s needs better; some science courses may be online, while others are in a classroom setting. Is it hard to get admission in IMSA if you are male, 8th grade and asian but all your stats look good?

@hopeforbest5 Yes, it is extremely difficult to get admission in 8th grade in general. I think only like 10/150 8th grade applicants get admission. More than just stats, IMSA looks to see a high level of maturity in 8th-grade applicants because admitted students go straight from 8th grade to 10th grade.

Hey guys I am a freshmen applicant for imsa class of 2022. I applied in 8th grade but unfortunately got rejected. Do you know if IMSA keeps data on who applied in 8th grade. WIll they see that I tried to apply in 8th grade and notice my interest in the academy.

@hopeforbest5 I agree with @Tandoorhut, getting admission in 8th grade is extremely difficult.

Thank you @spicematrat and @Tandoorhut. Also how would IMSA measure Maturity as that does not show in the stats or aplication. Also I know 4 kids who got accepted last year from 8th grade, the only difference being that they were girls and their scores (GAP and SAT) were much lower.

@SpiceMartRat I believe that IMSA keeps a record of the students who applied in 8th grade. Applying in 8th grade will show that you are passionate about attending IMSA and may help your decision.
