@sphericalcow1 same here!!
@IMSAhhhh it was 110% my essays and probably teacher recs. I’m in 8th and haven’t even taken the SATs but I tried to make it (my essays) as close to my personality as possible and leave it virtually unedited, I didn’t want to mask anything really.
Hey I am going into 9th grade this year and would like to take the SAT to get into IMSA. What type of questions will be on the SAT, like what books should I read to study for? Is it like the PSAT 8/9 or what?
Did anyone else get their placement tests? I just got mine today
yep - got mine today.
can we room
I have a question about the placement tests we received earlier this week- how many scantrons did we receive excluding the scantron for the languages/optional science? I am not quite sure how many scantron(s) we were supposed to receive for the math portion as there are two parts to it, but I only got one scantron.
So, I’m only in 7th grade going into 8th but my mom is pressuring me to get into Imsa and I’m kinda worried. Seeing as though I have already gotten 2 b’s in English last year. I do a bunch of extra curricular’s and am active in my community. I am always way above average on our standardized testing, I am in all honors classes right now and am attempting to get into a better science class next year. My sister who is a lot smarter than me didn’t get in and that’s my main reason why I’m worried. The SAT shouldn’t be a huge struggle for me but that’s what they all say isn’t it. I also live in a very rural area I don’t know if that will help my chances at all.
if you got a few bs in 6th grade it doesn’t really matter. just make sure you dont get any next year and you will be fine. If you write some nice essays and get a good SAT score with good ecs you’ll be fine, but it is really hard to get in in 8th grade. Knowing this you probably shouldn’t worry, and even if you don’t get in this year don’t worry you’ll always have next year.
Hi guys, I’m a 7th grader going into 8th, and I want to get the processes for admissions done before admissions start. I have only found one of the topics for the 4 essays that need to be written. Does anybody here know them?

hi everyone !! I am a current student at IMSA and I look forward to answering any questions lol -student '23
Hi, I am a prospective student interested in applying for IMSA class of 2024. I was wondering if you could give me any application tips you might have. Im looking forward into hearing your response, thanks!
hi! so honestly just gotta be yourself more than anything and I would say really, really stress on your essays! also try to join clubs that you are passionate about and stand out in those! do you have any specific questions?
I’m a rising 8th grader and I’m not sure if I’ll apply to IMSA, but I might. I would be an out-of-state applicant from Rhode Island (does that change anything?). This past year I had straight A+'s. I was in accelerated math 7 so I’ll be taking Algebra I next year. I’ve taken some of the SAT practice tests on Khan Academy and my average math score was a 690, my average EBRW score a 760. I’m a strong writer so I’m not too concerned about the essays. As for ECs, I was in All-State band this past year (hopefully again next year), I have been elected Student Council president, and I plan on competing in FLL Robotics, Science Olympiad, and the AMC 8. I don’t have many awards, but I got a “Superior” rating as part of my state’s Solo and Ensemble Festival, and I will likely receive a President’s Award for Educational Excellence. I know IMSA is super competitive, so would it be worth it for me to apply? Also, do JHU CTY courses count towards the high school science course requirement?
I forgot to say that I am also in National Junior Honor Society.
Also, would it be better to have the optional recommendation from my Science Olympiad coach who used to be my science teacher, or from my flute teacher who knows me really well and has already offered to write me reccs if I need them for anything?
Lastly, any advice on how to stand out? IMO, I think my application would be okay, but my ECs and awards are pretty common. How competitive is it for white females applying from out of state?
Sorry, I just realized that the eligibility criteria is kind of ambiguous. Can out-of-state students attend? The main page for eligibility says you have to be an Illinois resident, but then the page that is gathering data on “non-Illinois, tuition-paying students who may be interested in attending IMSA” has a separate set of eligibility criteria for prospective students who are not IL residents.
