Makes sense. btw do you know approximetly how many waitpool students get in?
Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I will say there is financial aid depending on your tier, so that might be worth looking into.
The number is so different every year. I know a handful of friends that were also on the waitpool, so the best I can say is a lot of students. Itās definitely not like waitpools and waitlists at top 20 schools where itās nearly impossible.
We probably donāt qualify for financial aid. Do you think they might award scholarships if I ask?
I donāt know the specifics, but I have heard admissions say āthe only reason why you canāt come to IMSA, is if you say noā. Meaning, they will work with and itās important to contact them. They donāt have any scholarships based on merit, but just communicate with the admissions team because they want IMSA to be accessible.
This might be a lot to ask, but would someone (preferably a current IMSA student) be willing to summarize the pros and cons of IMSA?
Yes I got you.
Pros
- Any extracurricular opportunity imaginable. We have a ridiculous amount of clubs and organizations.
- Like minded peers
- Residential Living
- Research and Internship opportunities
- Good faculty
Cons
- Elitism definitely exists here, but you can find your safe spaces.
- The coursework is difficult and at times you might find yourself sacrificing sleep and free time.
- Some toxic faculty and students
Thereās so much to talk about, but thatās just a quick list.
Thank you!! Do you happen to know anything about the dance team and what style of dance they do? Are they good? Iām on the dance team at my school, and we place at state every year.
Yeah dance team at IMSA focuses on hip pop and contemporary stuff. You wonāt find the traditional kick lines and spins. However, dancing is a huge part of IMSAās culture. Thereās dancing in culture shows, for clash of the halls, for pep rally before homecoming, and our dance team. Iām not a part of dance team, but I could connect you with someone who is!!!
I think they are really good, but they kind of do their own thing. IMSA in general is just weird and youāll find a lot of untraditional practices and organizations.
My school is a hip hop team too! Thatās so cool! Do they go to competitions and stuff too?
Yeah they compete with other schools within IHSA. Dance team might be one of our strongest sports on campus.
It is our only strong sport*
Ahaha I guess so? I think with a lot of IMSA sports you can make the best out of it though. This is more for individual sports, but weāve had people get recruited after attending IMSA and the coaches have been super encouraging in my experience. Iām sure some students might disagree though.
Earlier you said to just not come to IMSA. Why?
