IMSA Applicant Class of 2024

dude i did the same thing, DOnt worry!!! How stupid would it sound to be like, “Hi, This is IMSA we have rejected you because you put a , instead of an ;”

I’m sorry, but if they are that uppity thats kinda lame. You are 15 and below! And i mean spelling and grammer mistakes lets them know you didnt pay someone/ your parents wrote it for you. They are expected, we aint perfect yet.

Passion for cancer. Why? What ideas do you bring to the table? What treatment option would you like to innovate? Just that kinda stuff but you probably have that already written down in your essays.

For my challenge I wrote about being the first female wrestler in 5+ years at my middle school. It was more to show them how resilent I am (Can’t spell sowwy), and my personality. I am litterally banking my application on my personality, determination, will power, confidence, etc. My schools robotics programs aren’t the best. We actually don’t even have one outside of classes (I couldnt take because they filled up quickly). I added a ton of humor, that’s just me: "[at Michigan Tech] I learned what it is like to share a bathroom with 20 other girls, and the importance for cleaning up after communal spaces. "

Applications are due today, I’m so nervous. Nevertheless, good luck to everyone!!!

Let the waiting game begin…

( Some kid said this on the deadline day last year, so I decided to say it)

Did the kid that said that get in lol?

I’m so scared but looks like there are less applicants. Last year the CC thread had less posts and there were also less applicants. This year, there are even less posts and possibly less applicants. Who knows? Good luck and this process will be long. I’m pretty sure we only get results on May 1st.

I was just wondering if anyone knew about the placement tests like if you do really bad on them are you fine? Also, does anyone know what subjects? I heard that there was math but that was it? If you do, what concepts in each subject are tested.

I know that there is also science. Idk if there are any other subjects tho

Do you think Covid increased the number of applicants, or Decreased the number of applicants?? Seeing that IMSA didn’t extend their deadline this year, it seems like it has increased…

I believe decrease. Reason I say this is that I signed up for their emails and they were encouraging 8th graders to apply. They even listed a science program and it was affortable for most people . 8th graders have an average acceptence rate of 6.6% -ish so I cant see that being there target unless they are low on applicants. That or they want to seem more lux so now they are inviting more people just to reject them to make the school look more prestigous. But than again I dont really know. With my luck there will be 3k kids applying all with the same GPA and scores as me.

i kind of forgot i made this but i finished my application last week! i think my essays are pretty solid but i was a straight A student my whole life up until december when i had some mental health problems, and now i have mostly Bs but im getting them back up again. i talked about this in my optional statement, do you think it could keep me from getting in? im in eighth grade btw

First of all being in 8th grade and applying, that’s just awesome! You should be proud as is! Personally, I believe grades aren’t important, in the past 4 years I have gotten about 6 B’s, all A’s otherwise. I believe it is what you take away from the class that is important. Also some teachers are harder to pass than others so it isn’t a fair comparison. Actually it is the classes I have recieved a B I learned the most. Your grades aren’t gonna determine, change, or impact your future but the skills you learned will. The grade you recieved in high school or middle school means nothing. It is the knowleage you aquired and how you use it that determines how far you will go in life, what you will accomplish. Those are my beliefs and what I have concluded as fact. Now the depression and motivation part, every other cannidate is facing similar conditions this year so it doesnt stand out as a topic. However, if you effectively explain how this held you down, discribing in detail of how it felt and how you have been working to overcome it, it could leave an impact on your reader that is unforgetable. Expecally because challenges related with COVID and quarentine are such debated topics right now with mental health. Overcoming mental pulls will make you sound more reselient and strong which will reflect your personality. Sorry I cant spell.

to whoever’s reading this, congrats on submitting your application (if you were an applicant this year)! wishing you well in the months ahead.

hi,

I think that what truly matters in your application is that you have the potential (and the drive) to succeed in an environment like IMSA. I had the same concerns as you- I’ve also struggled with some mental health issues this year, which also affected my grades(…and if I’m being honest, I thought I was the only one that struggled academically this past semester). the optional statement was a good opportunity to brush things out, and I think that the IMSA admin/community will acknowledge students’ situations that came with the 20-21 school year.

hope this reaches you well!

does anyone know how long it takes for IMSA to reach a desicion on an application? perhaps I’m being impatient but it would be nice to have an estimate.

Ayo, i got a question for imsa students. for the geometry section of the math placement test, do they ask for knowledge on proofs, theorems, and postulates?

The decisions will be posted through the portal on May 1st.

No clue dude. Proofs you are ussually fill in the blank and then they give you the theoroms things and props on the side. No diffinition. At least thats what proofs were like on map testing and other standard testing back in middle school.

Rly? Nice. Im just worried that Ill flunk the geometry section of the IMSA math placement test and then get put in geometry class, a class I literally took a year ago already. Like, I’ve forgotten every proof in the book.
