While I do agree that ‘what you know’ will determine if a business is successful, I strongly disagree that you need a degree or to be from a notable school to start a business. Some of the most successful business owners in the world and throughout history didn’t have business degree’s, some didn’t even receive a formal education. Yes, a school like IMSA would help, but if I don’t get in I am not going to change my life plan based off of that.
Most people with a good education don’t have MY confidence nor MY will to learn. I know you have probably never gotten a D- or an F in a class, so my guess is you don’t know of this, but it’s when you push yourself to the point you fail- that’s is when you actually learn. I don’t care about my GPA or grades; I care about what I take away from the class. Ever been in a class you got an A and didn’t even try? What did you learn from that class? Probably not that much. My confidence level gives me the guts to speak what is on my mind. It also makes me not afraid of failure because you can always learn from it.
More than likely, you will strongly disagree with me. In the class I failed, I studied two plus hours a day for, did all my homework, and even stayed after for extra help. I did not fail because I didn’t try.
I totally agree with you. Though getting an A in a class with no effort and taking nothing from it should be blamed on the teacher. They probably didn’t challenge you enough which is another reason why IMSA is very good.
Anyone from the Naperville area who got admitted have any tips? I feel like my grades and my awards are subpar compared to everyone in my area. I want to know like what the average grade is for an admitted naperville student and maybe their awards and activities too.
There aren’t a lot of public boarding schools. Private boarding schools… well, not even most upper middle class people can’t afford privates either. For me, its either IMSA or my current high school
I applied to a boarding school and thankfully they offered a full scholarship. It all depends on your family’s income and I had to fill a very extensive financial aid application, but the school is paying everything except for books which are like 200 dollars.
Well, I’m not really interested in other boarding schools except for IMSA, cuz my objective is to go to IMSA, not go to any boarding school. I already go to a lab school, and its a pretty good school, but not as good as IMSA. I guess financial aid is also a way but with my family’s income, they probably wouldn’t offer much financial aid. Anyway, congratulations, but what boarding school was it?
How is GPA calculated? Do they take the total number of As and mulitply it by 4, total number of Bs and multiply it by 3, and so on to create a score or overall GPA? I think thats what I heard. Im kinda worried because I got 3 Bs in math, science, and ela over the years and I’m from the naperville area. Do they also account Bs in other classes?
each letter grade is worth so many points, and i don’t believe there’s a simply multiplication system to use. they will look at your grades from all classes, but only for the past few years or so.
i mean take this model with a grain of salt as, for example, my school counts all A’s as a 4.0. you might want to ask your counselor about this one regarding your GPA.
Damn- same tho. The only one I got awards for was 8 person team. I didnt make state (still top 100 which I’m proud of). Did you? How many points did you get? I competed in algebra 1. I wanna know!!
I got a 36 for Algebra 1, placed 3rd in regionals and 14th in the state. For 8 person, I got 2nd in regionals and 10th in the state. As an Algebra 1 team (which we get awards for), we placed 2nd in regionals and 7th in state. As a school overall, we got 7th in state… So, I think I get 3 regional awards and 4 state awards
I got 95th for algebra 1. My team got 20th in state and 1st in regionals. My score was 18. and as a school only 3 qualified for state and 5 got in the top 100. Also one team got 8th in state and only mine and that one qualified for state.
For me, our regionals score determined regionals and state rankings, so although I got 2 wrong out of 20 questions, I still get 14th. We didn’t have state competition either because UIUC didn’t want to host it this year, or it just got cancelled due to Covid
