IMSA SEAMS, Summer@IMSA, Integrated Science 2016

This forum is for people participating in the IMSA SEAMS or/and Integrated Science as well as Summer@IMSA residential programs at Aurora during Summer 2016. Lets gather and chit chat here.

@XxSwegLordxX IMSA working on letting us use wifi at dorms for 1 hour a day. They did not decide it yet for sure. I am planning on bringing a large phone so I can work on my online classes… no laptops allowed in the rooms, since they do not want to be responsible if anything get stolen/lost…

If anybody get into both SEAMS and Integrated Science? I only get into SEAMS

@javascript Do you know the type of math we are going to be working on at SEAMS?

@XxSwegLordxX I do not know. I guess it will be something fun :slight_smile: I wish somebody who went last year could share their stories…

@javascript When and how do we decide who’s going to be our roommate?

@XxSwegLordxX I think they will decide for us. It is probably just random… however, it is a possibility that admission committee spent some time to find best match (by interests or something like this). I am bringing a shower curtain (my mom called IMSA and they recommended to bring one just in case).

By the way, how are you going to manage wifi deprivation? :slight_smile:

Honestly I don’t know if I will be able to handle not being able to use wifi. Hopefully the fun activities will make up for it though

This is the point, we are expected to participate in activities, and not to sit on our phones all the time.

I am thinking some people will be experiencing a videogaming withdrawal symptoms. But it is for good O:-)

I went to SEAMS last year, but I kinda forgot about most of the math we did… but it was a lot of fun. We went on a field trip (to MSI), and the group leaders organized fun activities, and we had free time.

@caressmytoenails Thank you for the comment, I was hoping you will leave your feedback :slight_smile: What did you like the most? What did you dislike there? Do you think being at SEAMS helped your admission?

What I liked the most was the food… It was really good(imo) :D, and also the people, everyone was very open and including, and it was very easy to make friends.

I think SEAMS really helped my admission, along with the other IMSA programs I participated in(FUSION, integrated science, EIP). I saw that 50% of people who participated in IMSA Promise programs (such as SEAMS) were accepted into IMSA, so I guess its a pretty big boost.

@caressmytoenails Awesome!

@caressmytoenails I am so excited! <:-P
Did you do integrated science and SEAMS at the same time?

When I did integrated science it was in July and seams was in june.

This year the online component of Integrated science starts at the same time with SEAMS. A week of Integrated science at IMSA campus runs in July also. I just was wondering how people who are doing both can do the online component of Integrated Science having only 1 hour of WiFi a day… Obviously it is not a huge online load for Integrated Science…

@javascript The schedule says we check in and move to the residence hall from 12:00 to 1:30, so does that mean we have to get there at 12 or can we arrive somewhere between those two times? I just don’t think it would take an hour and a half.

@XxSwegLordxX As for me, I will be arriving at 12. I am assuming they have to accommodate about 70 people… so an hour and a half is pretty reasonable I think. I guess, if you arrive at 1 p.m. you will only have 30 minutes to go through check in, finding your room and setting up your stuff there.

I believe, as long as you will show up by 1-30, you are fine.

@javascript I wonder what those student presentations are going to be like…
