In a pickle - Unsure of major, and stuck in CC. What should I do?

Hi,

I’m in a pretty complicated situation now, and I’m not sure what to do exactly

I’m currently enrolled in a community college. I’ve been attending it for a few semesters now, and I really want to transfer. It’s not that it’s terrible, but I’d much rather be in a university for the “college feel” that people talk about.

Unfortunately, I am currently undecided. I’ve experimented with different courses, but nothing has really stuck yet. To apply to colleges within my state, I need a minimum number of credits, plus prereqs towards my major. I’ve gone to several counselors, but there’s not much they can do if I don’t know what I want to do. Major workshops have also proven unhelpful. Another problem is that the schools in my state don’t want you to change majors once you transfer.

As far as science goes, I’d need to stay in community college another 3 or so years for that, as I need a lot of math courses. If I wanted to transfer sooner, my best option would be something in the humanities.

What are my options realistically? I thought about private school, but I’m not sure if I’d have the money for that or not. If private school is a good option, are there any decent private schools (with active campus life) that are versatile with transfer major selection? I have over 30 credits and did decently in high school. I also don’t mind transferring out of state if necessary.

In summary, I want to transfer to a decent 4 year university as soon as I can, without a major in mind. At this point, I’m waiting for divine intervention. If anyone can offer help or information, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Ok let me preface this by saying I am old. I myself have two kids in college. But I have walked in your shoes. It took me three colleges and 8 years to get a degree. Why don’t you look to see if a local small liberal arts college has something you’re interested in majoring in? You don’t have to love the major just pick something. colleges don’t really care if you change really its more money in there pocket. It’s more about getting a degree not what you mAjor in. I would visit colleges and have them evaluate your transfer credits, That might help you determine a direction. I had about 6 majors before I pinned it down. What kind of jobs have you had and what do you love to do. That might help you narrow your selection. Good luck!!!

The problem is that I’m undecided. Would any college, private or not, even take me without settling on a major? For that matter, would it even be worth transferring while undecided?

Tbh, a few reasons I want to transfer is to get away from where I live, and also to get the “college experience.” I don’t feel like I’m getting that in CC, and I don’t like the thought of staying for more than another year.

I was thinking of a Comm major, but my state’s university system seems to frown upon that, judging by how many have the department. I’d like to maybe try TV production, but not many public universities seem to offer that. Maybe there are some private schools that offer a program like that to transfers?

Again, help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.
