In-depth Chance Me Thread -- Low GPA/High EC's

Starting off, I've been in love with UVA ever since I first visited it with my sister when she was applying to college. While she was attending I fell even more in love with it and it also didn't help that my life long best friend was just accepted there.

The average SAT score and GPA score for those accepted from my high school is 1960 and 4.35 respectively. The admissions rate is also about 41% - on par with that of accepted in state students.

By Background :
- White middle-to-high income male from northern Virginia
- Both parents have MBAs from Ivy Colleges
- My sister attended and graduated UVA with a dual major in Systems Engineering and Chinese

My Stats:
- 3.70 GPA, trending upward (with reason, part of my hook) - 3.45, 3.78, and 4.05 (never got a C, just lots of bs freshman year)
- 1690 SAT (620 Math, 550 reading,520 writing) - took once due to being too sick twice in a row and then took my only SAT while I was sick with pneumonia. On recent practice test I've superstores above a 2100
- APUSH (2), Maco (4), Micro(2), Calc AB(3)

I know so far I look like a joke of an applicant but what really sets me apart (as far as I'm concerned) is my depth and quality of extra curriculars.

Hook: At the beginning of freshman year I was hit with a variety of injuries that kept me in slings and castes until the beginning of sophomore year. I was forced to quit basketball, one of my true passions at the time, as well as cross country. I managed to play half the lacrosse season my freshman year but I did so injured. I had a really hard time freshman year in terms of making friends and staying active. My grades suffered but as a result I started my online business selling gaming currency which helped me find my passion fr business.

Letters of Rec: one will be from my business teacher who loves me and is also the supervisor for FBLA. The other one will be from my manager at work who loves me and is impressed at what I've managed to accomplish for being a 17 year old.

Other schools beside UVA that I am thinking about applying to are : VT, JMU, Indiana, Purdue, William and Mary, Cal Poly, and Santa Clara.

Prospective majors include Systems/Industrial Engineering or Operations Management with a minor in entrepreneurship

Anyone, bump

Okay your ECs and Rec.s will be good but you need to raise your acad.

Retake the SAT in October, and if you can get any 700+s on SAT IIs in November that will help.
Get As this semester, and consider taking a community or local college class and doing well in it.

You also have a LOT of demonstrated interest–look into applying early action.

Good luck! I’m sure with your ECs they won’t overlook you, and the upward trend is a strong positive.

I’m taking 5 APs this year…I also got a 650 on both Math II and US History, will be retaking Math II and studying this time…

Anyone else :S
