Well, basically, I’m failing. We’ve had 3 tests so far, and I boomed them. I’m not a bad student. My GPA is at a 3.83 UW and I’ve taken 3 AP classes so far (1 as a freshman), and all my classes this year (junior year) are AP and IB classes. I’ve received a 5 and two 4s on my AP exams. I am also and IB diploma candidate at a competitive school in California. I’m giving the info above to show you guys that I’m definitely CAPABLE of succeeding in the class. So don’t just say “drop the class, calculus isn’t for everyone”. Besides I plan on taking physics next year, and they say Calc is a good background for it. And I didn’t want to take Calc AND physics my senior year.
BASICALLY…how do I succeed in this class? I need to end up with a 95% quarter grade to get a B in this class. I know…impossible right?..Last year I did get 100% quarter grade in Alg2 w/ trig so maybe it’s not too impossible? But anyways, how do I acheive this?!
why have you “boomed” them? can you talk to you teacher and get extra help? maybe look online for resources? it seems like you probably have trouble understanding concepts… maybe look at Khan Academy. those videos were helpful for me last year. good luck
Yes, I’m definitely going to start going to my teacher every morning and start asking more questions. I’m really shy to do that though because everyone in my class is so stinking smart. Oh well, I guess I’m just going to have to suck it up.
Why are you in AP Calc BC if you did algebra 2 last year? I did algebra 2 with trigonometry last year and I’m currently in accel. math, and it’s hard and we are only on the first chapters of AB… can you switch down to AB?
You need PreCalc. Some people don’t but since you’re bombing the class, drop down to PreCalc Honors or something, or at the very least AP Calc AB, you can still take AP Physics C with AP Calc BC next year. Are even taking (or taken) a physics class yet?
Well, since you seem to know everything, why did you post? People take AP Physics C (both E&M AND M) with AP Calc AB concurrently, or take AB Calc one year and BC the next with AP Physics, or take BC and Physics concurrently- check with your school for it’s calculus curriculum. AB is typically Calc 1 and BC is typically Calc 1 and 2 (or just 2).
Either a) drop the class, b) get a tutor or c) start studying PreCalc. Good luck.
Our alg2 w/ trig class is also the precalculus class. It’s the only prerequisite for the Calc class. And we go over AB topics in there. Everyone else in my class took alg2 w/trig last year, just like I did, and they’re all juniors as we. And the curriculum pretty much picks up right where we left off last year. The teacher does not assume that we know any of this stuff, she knows we all took alg2 w/ trig the previous year.
And I have a tutor. I feel like it doesn’t really help because I feel like I can only really depend on myself if I really want to LEARN and master the information.
