Hey I was wondering if I have a solid shot at transferring to either NYU or Cornell...I am currently a third semester student here at Penn State--University Park in an accelerated business program called the Sapphire Program. I plan to major in accounting as well. Here are my qualifications:

College:
GPA = 3.77
Major GPA = 3.89
Deans List all semesters.
Clubs incl. Accounting Society & Economics Association.
I plan to study abroad this spring semester in Florence.

High School:
GPA = 4.0 weighted
SAT = 1300 (700 M, 600 V)
SAT II = 600 Writing; 660 Math 1; 670 Math 2
Honor Roll Student every year
Tons of extracurriculars -- 4 yr. Varsity Athlete in Indoor and Outdoor Track

Couple this info with glowing reccomendations and strong essays, and what do you get? Suggestions for other transfer schools is also wanted...

there is nothing wrong with psu...i just want a change of scenery. nyu is my top choice b/c it's only 35 min from my home, and cornell is another avenue i'm looking in to b/c i know a lot of people there.
The only thing that really aggravates me about psu are the people -- annoying, majority are jack*sses, and it's like going through another 4 yrs. of high school.

Maybe you want to consider going to these colleges for grad school.
Undergrad doesn't matter much these days.
Moreover, you'll be saving more by going to Penn State rather than a private university such as NYU.
I don't know. That's just me.

Wait, a 3.77 GPA at a respectable school like PSU couldn't get you into NYU or Cornell? I believe that the OP has an excellent shot at both schools.

A 4.0 at Rice didn't get someone into Cornell last year. A 3.77 at PSU would have to be coupled with excellent essays/reasons, as with any applicant, to get into Cornell. It all depends, as well. CAS (Econ majors) had an acceptance rate of 8% last year, whereas CALS (Applied Econ) had a transfer rate of 50%, yet Applied Econ is reportedly the hardest major to get into.
