There's lots of wealthy kids for sure, but it's fairly diverse.

I think of Middlebury kids as bright but not intellectual, social, outdoorsy. Almost every foreign language teacher I have had went there and when I visited and read their alumni magazine, it seem they produce a heck of a lot.

Little socioeconomic diversity. Many from upper middle class and wealthy New England families. Outdoorsy, beautiful people. Most are very, very friendly. Preppy in dress, perhaps, but definitely not attitude.

Last year Middlebury provided grant aid to more than 45 percent of the student body. For the incoming Class of 2011, the average grant amount was more than $30,000. So clearly not everyone at Middlebury is rich. And 76% of students come from outside New England, so there is geographic diversity as well.
