So when applying for UT Austin, i was ranked 44/435 (10.1%) and still did not get into UT, meaning I was off by one person.

But if my cards are played right i believe i will graduated in the Top 10% meaning i will still get automatic admission to UT Austin, just not for Fall 09, I do believe i can get accepted for Spring 10 and start a semester later, but also been told i can go take college classes if i appeal and tell UT why i should be able too, so if this works out do you think it would be possible to go to possibly UTSA for a semester and transfer back to UT the second? State your opinions, and thanks!

A suggestion for you. Why not enroll at Austin community college in the fall and then transfer in the spring to UT. You could live in a private dorm, make friends, and be well situated when you enroll for the spring. Just a thought. My daughter moved in to towers today. She met a kid who is staying there, enrooled at ACC, and hoping to transfer to UT. This way he will have freinds when he does. If you are accepted in advance for the spring, enrolling at ACC and living At UT would make the transition even easier. Sorry for offering my two cents.

I had the same problem of just barely not being in top 10% and sent an email to my admissions counselor about after I got my midyear senior yr transcripts which placed me in top 10%. I recieved the following:

"We will use the transcript and rank that was available as of the Jan 21st deadline for Fall admission. However, if you are not admitted to UT for Fall 2009, you can complete an application for freshman admission to Spring 2010. If you graduate in the top 10% and submit a completed Spring application by the deadline, you would be automatically admitted at that time.

If you were to apply for Spring, there are two things to think about. First, the School of Architecture does not admit students in the Spring semester, so therefore you would have to wait a full year and apply for Fall 2010 or you would have to apply as a different major and work to internally transfer to Architecture once you are here. (Your second choice major of Liberal Arts does admit in the Spring). Second, because top 10% offers automatic admission for Freshman, you would not be allowed to take college course work in the period between high school graduation and your enrollment at UT (you do have the option of submitting a written request asking to take coursework in the interim period but it is not guaranteed to be approved)."

I got in though; I was actually accepted just minutes after I got this email.

socaldad, that is the, “shhhh, keep it a secret” method of getting in to UT - so many kids do that from our area, that it’s not too much of a secret anymore. haha!
