When I applied to UT, I used my end of junior year transcript and was ranked at 54/497. With my new mid-year transcript, I'm ranked as 47/480, putting me in the top 10%. I know that it's probably too late to gain automatic admittance with my new class rank, but would sending in my new transcript and telling them that I'm now top 10% help me to get in through the regular admission process?

I don't think it is too late. Send in your updated transcript with your class rank and call them. UT is required to take the top ten percent. Make it happen for you.

DEFINITELY NOT TOO LATE!!! That is exactly what the admissions people tell you to do! You absolutely should be accepted under the top 10% rule. Congratulations!

send my admissions counselor an email about it and she replied back with the following:

"We will use the transcript and rank that was available as of the Jan 21st deadline for Fall admission. However, if you are not admitted to UT for Fall 2009, you can complete an application for freshman admission to Spring 2010. If you graduate in the top 10% and submit a completed Spring application by the deadline, you would be automatically admitted at that time.

If you were to apply for Spring, there are two things to think about. First, the School of Architecture does not admit students in the Spring semester, so therefore you would have to wait a full year and apply for Fall 2010 or you would have to apply as a different major and work to internally transfer to Architecture once you are here. (Your second choice major of Liberal Arts does admit in the Spring). Second, because top 10% offers automatic admission for Freshman, you would not be allowed to take college course work in the period between high school graduation and your enrollment at UT (you do have the option of submitting a written request asking to take coursework in the interim period but it is not guaranteed to be approved)."

edit: nevermind, just got a decision from UT. I GOT INTO ARCHITECTURE :D

Congratulations! A little drama there but it all worked out for the best in the end. Hook 'em Horns!
