In memory of an '08er

I thought this might be of interest:

<a href="http://www.swarthmore.edu/news/releases/05/fischer.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.swarthmore.edu/news/releases/05/fischer.html</a></p>

Tariq Fisher was a College Confidential poster from Augusta, GA who was accepted to Swarthmore, Class of '08. During the summer after his freshman year, he and two friends were killed when they lost control of their car and crossed the median on I-20 in an afternoon thunderstorm while driving one of the boys to the Atlanta airport.

He made quite an impression on Swarthmore in one short year. Apparently, Swarthmore made an impression on his family:

"It is not often that a college is given the responsibility to invest the inheritance of one of its young students, and we consider this a special and serious commitment. Tariq loved his friends at Swarthmore. He loved his involvement in sports. He loved writing for The Phoenix. And he loved Islam. We will have some peace if his inheritance is invested by Swarthmore to honor these things that he loved."

yes, I read it. It is very touching and very generous of the parents...most people would have moved on from Swarthmore at least.

I, too, had read the release and felt that it was an incredibly generous gesture. And how fitting were the projects they chose, so that many of the students could benefit not only in their academic but their extracurricular lives as well.

How moving this is. What a wonderful response to the most tragic of circumstances.
