In Need of Clarification

So I am about to enter my freshman year of college and am planning on pursuing a pre-med track; however, I keep hearing warnings about claiming AP credit and such and I'm kind of confused. Can anyone clarify why claiming credit is looked down upon?

With AP Scores I can receive credit for:

2 English Classes
Calculus I and II
1 Year of Introductory Bio
Macroeconomics
US Govt/Polts

I would like to claim credit for everything but in doing so I would be replacing my extra time with a few upper division biology courses however I don't wish to go any further in English or calculus. I know how tough the application process is for medical school so if I do find myself applying I don't want to be limited by anything as small as this. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The problem isn’t with claiming AP credit with your undergrad institution, but rather trying to claim it with med schools. A few will accept it for pre-req courses, but the vast majority will not, so you’ll end up needing a year of calculus, a year of english, a year of bio, etc. in actual college classes anyway.

As for why it’s looked down upon - AP’s aren’t accepted by most med schools or are looked down upon because they simply don’t rise to the rigor of the college versions of the course. I took plenty of AP and IB courses in high school - not one of them compared to a college-level course.

Which is exactly why it is required – too many math-science geeks who can’t write.
