Hi everyone! So I'm finalizing my college list in the new two weeks, and I need some more good match and safety schools to consider. I would really appreciate some suggestions!

Basic Stats:

GPA: 4.41W. Rough estimate is 3.94 UW.
Rank: 2/300ish, but my school is considering not ranking anymore.
SAT: 2310 Superscore (800 M, 750 CR, 760 W), 2250 Highest (740 M, 750 CR, 760 W).
APs: Have/will take a total of 9. 5 on World History, awaiting 4 scores, taking 4 next year.
ECs: Have held leadership positions, involved in debate, community service, chemistry etc.
Some research experience through summer program this summer.
Intended Major: Biology or Chemistry, looking to go on Pre-Med track

I'm looking for co-ed schools in the northeast & mid-atlantic, and I prefer medium-sized schools, though I don't mind the size along its not on the extremes (really large/really small). I need some more match schools like Tufts and Carnegie Mellon (I'm planning to apply to both :) ) that are strong in the sciences (I hoping to go into medicine). A few safety school suggestions would be great too, the two safeties I'm considering are URochester & Rutgers.

Without knowing what kind of environment you are looking for… it is hard to recommend-but look at Brandeis, Colgate, Franklin & Marshall, rolling admission for Pitt…I don’t think you can count Rochester as a safety. You are a likely admit…but cannot count on as a safety. As a parent of an alum although not in the sciences, you are going to competing with very strong candidates as the school continues to rise in profile, and it is a school that will want you to show demonstrated interest. Brandeis, Tufts and Rochester are all very similar academic schools although all with different aspects. UConn or UVM also would be good safeties to look at.

Since most safeties don’t give much financial aid, we need to know what your budget situation is.

If your parents will pay for wherever you go, then great…many safeties will work.

However, if you need financial help, then you will likely need to choose some safeties that will give you huge merit scholarships for your stats.

@bookmama22: Thank you! Yeah, I guess URochester isn’t a safety, but my counselor didn’t see me having any problem getting in, so I thought of it as a low match.

@mom2collegekids: I’m lucky enough that my parents will pay for wherever I go, so I won’t need financial help. So, I can look at both safeties with or without huge merit scholarships. and, yep, instate for Rutgers!

To anyone, Anymore suggestions for especially matches?

Pre-med courses can be done around any major. Note that biology and chemistry have poor job and career prospects at the bachelor’s degree level if you do not go to medical school. If you like chemistry, majoring in chemical engineering has significantly better job and career prospects.

@ucbalumnus: I’m not really looking for schools in the south, but thanks for the advice about majors!

@SLUMON: Thanks, I’ll definitely look more into those schools!

For anyone who can help, Any more match suggestions? Again, my SAT superscore is a 2310 and my GPA is 4.41 W, something like 3.95 UW. I rank 2/300ish. Thanks so much!
