In of State vs Out of State

I want to go to a school like UMass or UConn, however i am in New Jersey. I know it would be “easier” for me to be admitted into Rutgers, but how much “harder” will it be to get Umass or UConn? Lets say i’m average GPA and SAT for all three. Will my chances for Rutgers be higher than UMass and UConn?

It’s not that simple of a determination. It can depend upon which Rutgers school, and major program vs those of the schools you are investigating. There are school that have to limit OOS enrollment and get way more of those OOS applications with qualified applicants than they are permitted if to take, and that’s when there is a squeeze. Some schools with that situation are UVA, UNC-CH, UMich. I don’t think that’s the case with UConn or UMass. They may be more selective than Rutgers—check the stats for the students

Some say, schools like OOS applicants because they bring in. needed revenue above the Instate tuition. Most schools are stingier with financial aid for OOS Kids. They take care of their own first.

@LilPetunia , Did you know that as an NJ resident, university of Maine will allow you to attend at the in-state rate rather than OOS?

Not sure if the 2 schools you mentioned above have a particular attraction but if you just want a change from NJ, that one might be worth a look.
