Are Alumnae parents allowed back for reunion? Either that, or I think I’ll become an ADA.
Thank god I was probably the only parent never to see her daughter on campus or I would have taken her place on the spot.
TD: she was offered two interesting first jobs and was finalist for a year of paid internship. When they learnt that she didn’t have a green card, all three declined to take her. So yes, back to Paris to join the long queue of unemployed graduates.
Update in a year.

LiT, what a fun idea that Smith parents would have a reunion! I love it!

I’m so sorry to hear that the three prospects for jobs wouldn’t take your daughter without a green card. How frustrating–her having a job would have made her eligible to apply for one! Keep us posted, and if we can help in some way, like having her stay here while she’s job-searching, if that’s legitimate, please let us know.

I assume that when you say “update in a year,” you mean that your treatment has been successful and you go back in a year. Excellent news! Thank you for the update.

LiT, my D enjoyed meeting you! Thanks so much for your fabulous description of the events surrounding commencement. I got teary eyed reading your entry, and I can’t even imagine how many boxes of tissue I will go through when I get to experience this in person. My D knows your daughter and can’t wait to see you and her in Paris. Thank you so much for your offer to be on call for her!

My pleasure, MomTj.
PS: the update I was speaking of was where D will be in a year. As for me, one more chemo session and then I move on to radiotherapy before experiencing 5 years of hormone therapy. Never rains but it pours…
Seriously, I feel better than I expected, so all good.

LiT, I’m sorry I misinterpreted your remark. It looked a little like a separate topic being on the next line. How discouraging it is as a parent to see your daughter graduate and then go home to unemployment. It’s an understandable worry for parents. Is there a Smith alum network in France she could use as a resource? Does the CDO have any ideas? I know it’s not easy to communicate with them now but email works; do they Skype?

I hope the remaining steps of your treatment smoothly. Hugs to you.
