Greetings,

I am a freshman and recently I got an In-School Suspension for intentionally misrepresenting the principal of my school. It was poor judgement on my part. For an April Fools prank, I emailed some of my parents saying that I was given a suspension for severe racism and included a link on the bottom which redirected them to a site saying "April Fools." I made this email seem as if it had come from the principal. Additionally, I emailed some of my friends and told them they were in trouble for various ridiculous reasons. At the bottom, however, I made it known that it was me. Eventually, my principal found out about this and I was given a 3 day in-school suspension. As of now, I am a straight A student, and I understand my mistake and severely regret it. How will this affect my chances of entering Ivy League Collages.

Thank You

Might hurt your chances, might not.

Don’t worry about Ivy League “Collages” so early in high school. Focus on not making stupid mistakes.

Additionally, does an In-School Suspension count as an actual suspension or a detention?

Depends on the school. Talk to a guidance counselor. Find out if this will ever appear on your transcript. Your GC will also know what kinds of questions are normally asked on the GC report for various colleges. Ask if the GC thinks this incident is the kind that in his/her experience would have to be reported.

In school suspension is certainly not a real suspension (though I think it is worse than a real suspension). It is more like a longer detention. I got an in school suspension for a stupid reason (not stupid on my part, stupid in that the school gave one to me at all) and I did not have to explain myself when applying to colleges. If you ever get a real suspension, you will have to include that in your college applications but you do not have to explain an in school suspension.

That is a relief
Thank You

If anyone had an In-School Suspension and they actually did have to write it down on the college resume please tell me…

or if you had an In-School Suspension and did not have to write it down, please tell me…

I can’t offer much help but I will say if you keep track of your behavior you should be good. Sometimes people do one stupid mistake in their high school career that they regret.

But before you do something I would think about your future first.

from now on, I definitely will
