Is there any benefit in being from NC with regards to admissions? I have looked around on here and some people say there is while others say there is no benefit. I even heard about a charter that Duke has to take a certain number from NC?

From a statistics standpoint, North Carolina does have one of the largest representations at Duke. That being said, more North Carolinians probably apply to Duke than from other states.

@ArticHogni: No, while the original Duke Indenture – now nearing a hundred years old – made it clear that the Duke Family’s philanthropy (a lot more than Duke University, per se) was primarily designed to assist the Carolinas (both North and South), no specific, quantitative admissions targets or requirements were ever established. More important, the Carolinas have always be very well represented in the student (undergraduate, graduate and professional schools) population. Therefore, as a practical matter, there is “in state” no advantage.

Thank you for your replies! @Rawhide96 @TopTier This is something that I have wondered about for a very long time.
