In-state chances

Hey guys, I've been a huge UNC fan all of my life, and haven't thought of going elsewhere, although I've applied to other schools just in case. I'm in-state (Charlotte) with a 2010 SAT, AP and honors classes mostly, played tennis, baseball, cross country, I have numerous volunteer hours, but the problem is horrendous GPA (3.3-with a few D's) and a class rank barely in the top quarter (24%), and I'm a white male. The big thing is that I'm a very good writer who is committed to a career in journalism, and I have worked for the biggest newspaper in South Carolina when I lived there during high school (The Post and Courier) as a writer, and I worked for the Charlotte Observer (biggest in North Carolina--in my opinion). Also, I'm a legacy--my dad went to undergrad and grad school there. Please can anyone tell me their absolute honest opinion on my chances for admission. Thanks a lot.

To be brutally honest, Id say its a reach

you had a few d's and you're in first quarter? crazy...

all your other stuff is pretty awesome

but then, i'm also a senior and have no room to guess at chances

Admit rates for in-state are 57% (or 63% for alumni). Did you get "the letter" from the admissions office in December?
