So whats a good subject to write about?

Are atheletic things too cliche? would writing about a passion for a non-mainstream sport like rock climbing be different in a good way?

What do most people write about? I dont wanna do the whole " my job has taught me time managment blah..blah......"

I have the same problem myself.. :/

Well, what I've learned reading so many essays is that although some topics are very common, the important thing is how you write it.
I think a non-mainstream sport like rock climbing could make you stand out, because it's different, but then again a boring essay about that would probably make not much difference.

I think I will just take a memorable experience I had in one of my ECs and elaborate on it. I don't know how much this helps, I don't really know about other people and would like to hear a few opinions as well.

And you're definitely right about the "This has taught me bla bla" part, a good essay should show not tell. :)

The best thing to write about would be something you're passionate about so that you could produce a fun, engaging essay. It doesn't matter what it is as long as it's going to be interesting to read and will show a side of you. If it's athletics, go for it.

I'm obviously bumping a very old thread.

[Do you think..] it's better to attempt a narrative/literary style or to be more straightforward?

I'm leaning toward the latter just because of the restrictive word limit.

does it have to be the one listed on the form? or can you pick something minor but that has impacted you somewhat?

on one app, i decided to elaborate on my number 1 choice of the previous form. But on another, i decided to use a more minor event (summer camp type deal) to explain another thing. I dunno if it's okay, but that's what I did.
