^The “certain degree” part is the thinking that allows disparities. But most people who make those statements would not send their kids to certain public schools. And I think it’s possible to make it (much more) equal without abolishing private schools–they can stay while public schools can improve…

I really do wish everyone in the world could have equal opportunities.

but i mean like, if u really think about it…if everyone was equal in the world…

wouldn’t it diminish/eradicate the purpose of working or w/e to raise ur status and become more rich etc.? then who will be left to do things like odd / lower jobs etc. not to sound pessimistic…

^So true. If it wasn’t for failure and poverty, production wouldn’t exist for the most part.

Rights and rights only.

I don’t think it is too bold a prediction to say that computers will take over most of these jobs eventually.

Or inherited.

in marriage! Gay marriage ftw!

Yeah, especially since servants more evince a need to employ surplus population than anything else.

I don’t get what some people are saying.

Equal opportunity =/= equal wealth or jobs or that there wouldn’t be menial jobs to be done.

I just want everyone to have the same educational opportunities…that doesn’t mean janitors wills be eliminated or anything. That’s ridiculous. I just don’t like the idea that where one grows up can have such an effect on what occurs (education-wise)…I want everyone to have the same opportunity no matter where that are or who they came from (I’m talking about the US for now…).

And of course, I’m for gay marriage. Don’t understand why ANYONE is against it.

This statement does not make sense.

The key word was opportunity This does not mean lower jobs would suddenly be eliminated…but those who did the least with this (equal) opportunity would perhaps occupy this role (as opposed to some right now who might not even have the chance).

Equal opportunity. Maximize that, but we should not try to create equal outcome, as that would require restricting freedom.

^^I’m personally against gay marriage because: Just the thought of it sounds absurd to me and marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman.

/hijack

^^Surely the idea of equal opportunity excludes any idea of degrees. Or is it ok if some are more equal than others?

It’s just not possible to have true equality of opportunity in a capitalist society. I’m not saying it should change, it’s just silly to pretend that it is the case.

^^ Says who?
And that’s ironic considering you’re from Africa and gay “marriage” was perfectly acceptable in many parts of Africa before Europeans came in and took over.

To add on to education:
I am for equality and I don’t think any language in laws should limit anything based on race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, and so on. Therefore, women should have equal pay for equal work, same-sex people should be able to marry, etc. I don’t think any law should have wording that discriminates against a section of the population.

^^Yeah, but we can get a lot closer than we are now, can we not?

^^I agree with you Romani.

HAHAHA…no…the part of africa i’m from is 99.9% Muslim… it would be reaaally frowned down on.

But I mean…it’s just that I strongly believe that God didn’t create humans to be homosexual. It’s like defying against nature’s wishes IMO. It’s immoral and it’s not right.

Not even animals commit sodomy…

^ Uhm, you realize that there were civilizations for thousands of years BEFORE Islam and Christianity came to Africa, right?
And America isn’t a theocracy. Your beliefs shouldn’t limit other people’s rights.

And there are no known species of animals that HAVEN’T exhibited “homosexual” relations.

Ignorance is not always bliss.

^ I’m sorry! I will admit that I am a little homophobic (hmm comes w/ being black? LOL j/k)…but idk around gay guys i won’t panic but around lesbians…i’d freak out LMAO idk…

^ I guess you’d panic around me.

And wow, way to stereotype. The leader of RING (our LGBT organization) is black.

^ LOOOOL i was joking hahaha

nooo it’s just that I don’t understand the concept of being Gay. It’s like, I think people decide to be that way. Or are they born with it?

I’ve heard from my friend that it has to do something with ur DNA,right?
