In YOUR opinion, what are the top 25 Privates universities?

I am curious what the general perception on CC is on private universities in the US. I am interested what people think are the top 25 (OR top 20) private universities (not LACs because it can be hard to compare universities with LACs). Can you please list them and hopefully in order! Anyways, thanks!

Here, I will give my opinion:
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
MIT
Stanford
Chicago
Caltech
Columbia
Penn
Dartmouth
Duke
JHU
Cornell
Emory
Brown
Northwestern
Wash U.
Rice
Vandy
Notre Dame
CMU
Tufts
Georgetown
USC
NYU

Synonymous with genius:
1Harvard 2Yale 3Princeton 4Stanford 5MIT + Berkeley/UChicago/Caltech

Rest of the Ivy league + Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Georgetown, UMichgan

Vanderbilt, Emory, Rice, Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame.

phead, lol the OP said private… and what makes Georgetown bettwe than those tier 3 schools… I know its just your opinion though so yea…also, I know its all relative but the tier 2, 2.5 and 3 schools are so good, it seems kind of harsh to call them lower tiers… hmm tier 1 b perhaps?
Anyways, here’s my opinion:

Harvard
Princeton
Yale
MIT
Stanford
Columbia
Chicago
Penn
Caltech
Dartmouth
JHU
Duke
Northwestern
Emory
Cornell
Wash U.
Brown
Rice
Vandy
Carnegie Mellon
Georgetown
Tufts
Wake Forest

With no disrespect, this topic has been done soooooo many times. I’m sure you will get input from the younger generation (ie HS jrs. & sophs.) But the answers will not be different. So do a CC search, and not that far back either.

Otherwise, this thread is boring. Sorry OP. (However, many of the current HS folk and the still arguing the case for their college adult, will respond.")

Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
MIT
Caltech
Duke
Chicago
Penn
Columbia
Cornell
Brown
Dartmouth
Northwestern
JHU
Rice
WashU
Emory
Vandy
CMU
Georgetown
Tufts
USC
NYU
Brandeis

Wow, looks so much different than USNews. One or two different placements makes me a genius, or so much smarter.
Let me see, is Princeton #2 or Yale? OMG it makes a big difference!

^morrissmm, like you said, there are new comers that may want to contribute and for better or for worse, let it be.

1.Harvard
2.Stanford
3.Yale
4.Princeton
5.MIT
6.UChicago
7.Caltech
8.Columbia
9.UPenn
10.Duke
11.WashU
12.Dartmouth
13.Northwestern
14.Brown
15.Cornell
16.Rice
17.Vanderbilt
18.Emory
19.Notre Dame
20.Georgetown
21.Johns Hopkins
22.Carnegie Mellon
23.Tufts
24.Boston College
25.USC

Leave it to a WashU student to rank his school higher than it is already (over-)ranked by USNEWS.

Ivies + Stanford + MIT + Caltech and about a couple of dozen schools vying for the remaining 14 spots.

Duke
Wash U

ECPI
Harvard
Yale
MIT
Princeton
Stanford

^ This is true only in “kville.” Those kameron krazies are so aptly named.

Interesting that you didn’t put Wake Forest in your top tier. That’d been even funnier.

UC Berkeley is private?
I don’t know that I could list twenty-five, but I would definitely say MIT, Stanford, Duke, Caltech (all of which I applied to ;)) should be somewhere on the list.

"1Harvard 2Yale 3Princeton 4Stanford 5MIT + Berkeley/UChicago/Caltech

Rest of the Ivy league + Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Georgetown, UMichgan

Vanderbilt, Emory, Rice, Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame."

Haha at JHU is in the same tier as UPenn and Columbia… keep dreamin. =)

You didn’t say PRETTY please.

“Hate” is such a strong word. “Disrespect” is more like it.

UChicago, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern and Georgetown are all ranked too high. Neither Berkeley nor UMichigan are privates.

Berkeley and other gov school don’t belong in the list. Sure they have bright students there, average SAT for the freshman is somewhere around 2160 (which is not that impressive btw), but there low end is way lower than a Harvard or a Stanford. Don’t know about Michigan or UVA but there not ranked as high as Berkeley so I would think there sb IQ is even lower. Now grad school, by school, might be a different list. I think Berkeley has a few that are up there with Harvard, Stanford, etc.
