Wow, private school bias, much? Where's Michigan and UVA?

That's a silly list.

UCLA > UVa

who is number 6???

I don't think UVA should be in the top 20---definitely not U Mich. If this has anything to do with quality, not jsut prestige, the state schools generally aren't as good.

.......................

stillmanz,

i'd easily say that the average public school is better than the average private school, and the best public schools are as good as the best privates.

Forget what should or shouldn't be in the top 20. This prediction isn't a wish list, it's a prediction based on historically top 20 lists from USNWR. Michigan and UVA will most likely not make top 20, Cal, on the other hand, obviously has a good chance. Besides the numbering mistake, I think it is a plausible list.

you mean Top 20 Private Schools? where's UCLA, Cal, Umich, uva?

upenn= top 5

wheretf is vanderbilt?

Not in top 20

why do you think gtown and emory will bump and vanderbilt drop?

I was actually responding to Citan about UCLA, Cal, Umich, uva. Vandy is a bit more ambiguous, but Emory's error in alumni giving last year will likely give it a boost, and I see Georgetown moving up - although this is pure speculation.

I think that's a pretty good list...I think everyone is overestimating the power of UVA/Berkeley/UMich. I agree a/b Emory...it should move up due to the alumni giving mistake. I don't think Michigan will crack the top 20 yet for sure...I guess Berkeley and UVA may make it in there, but who's gonna get knocked down to move them in?

^ exactly

the truth is, the only real variable in the usnews formula (with the obvious exception of changing what is and isn't included in it) is the peer assesment score. a difference of .1 can mean a lot, especially when that category accounts for 25% of the total score. Its the only score that a small change can definately affect. other factors, such as sat scores and gpas don't matter as much imo because every school has some sort of increase.

i am curious to see what happens with uva's peer assessment score this year. last year it was 4.3 and 2 years ago it was 4.4. if it were to return to 4.4 i could see it jumping up a spot or 2 - being as i'm sure everything else has improved at the same rate as the other schools have.

its interesting to note that 15 years ago, uva (i think uva was 16 at 1 point), michigan and cal were all in the top 20. its been private schools which have been able to manipulate data and make drastic changes which have moved it them up.

shut up all. that list is all wrong, Maryland College Park is the number one school in the country. all other schools suck, we all know its true. Harvard sucks, College Park rules wooooo lol haha

when are the new rankings going to be released?

This Friday

no way, where the publics at...
Berkeley mos def moved up past 20
