^ Ah well, to that question I would say that I found the concept refreshingly original, the writing very tight and intelligent, the production values solid and impressive, and the acting sound. It also had a great sense of movement throughout.

silverturtle what’s your top5 or top 10?

Wow. Just Wow. I got goosebumps literally 30 times during the movie. That was the BEST movie I’ve seen this year. I’d go as far as to say it is top 3 best movies I’ve personally ever seen. No wait, I think that was the single best movie I’ve ever seen. I clapped after the movie. I never clap after movies. Never. Just amazing. Go watch it like now.

Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors of all time (I say that even when he has made less than 10 movies). All his movies are amazing. The Dark Knight was great… so was The Prestige… I loved Batman Begins… but Inception just tops them all.

Rating: 100 out of 100.

^^ Oh I don’t know. I’ve never really compiled a list like that, but I know that Christopher Nolan would appear at least three times in my top ten if I were to.

I didn’t really like this movie. I felt like it dragged on for far too long starting about 50% of the way through the movie. After a while, the flashing back and forth between each alternate dream kept it dragging on and on and also made it seem a little cheesy as well. Plus, I didn’t enjoy how the movie’s writers/director seemed up their own ***es with the “philosophical” themes of the movie. It seemed too forced.

^ What philosophical themes?

The whole “what is reality?” theme.

^ I am going to respectfully disagree with Basajaun and ask that people who haven’t seen it at least give it a try. 95% of you will appreciate the genuis that is known as Inception. Nothing will be universally liked but this will probably come close. Instant Classic.

I really don’t understand why people are saying this movie is so great. At worst it was almost as good as quantum of solace, which wasn’t unique or original at all. At best it was a new idea that had a bunch of money and good actors put into it. The flow of the movie and plot were terrible.

 I strongly disagree.

In my opinion, it had the best flow of any movie that I’ve seen; I actually think that this is its greatest strength. :)

I don’t think it was a great movie, 'cause most of the characters were weak. I wasn’t invested in the relationship between Leonardo diCaprio and Marillon Cotillard (sp?) at all. If it had been a Great Movie, I would have been dying of suspense over what decision he would make, like agonizing over it emotionally. Instead I was like “hope you pick reality, dude.” Nobody else was particularly deep either, even though they tried to make that father-son thing emotional.

Great plot? Yes. Moments of heavenly direction? Yes. Great fun? Yes. Lacking something for me to call it a great movie? Also yes.

So I’ve been putting off reading this thread until right now, since I just saw the movie earlier today.

And damn. Not many movies have made me think like that. I was actually mentally exhausted after watching it lol. I’d say it was definitely one of the best movies I’ve seen in awhile.

Definitely going to watch it again.

I have this weird urge to watch Memento right now.

Inception was the third best movie I watched in the past week, I think. Maybe tied for second, considering that Il y a longtemps que je t’aime didn’t have perfect directing. This isn’t saying that much for it since the fourth film I watched (immediately after, actually) was Knight & Day, but Nolan can’t compete with Wong Kar Wai at his best. (I like small films.)

We did a double feature at a drive-in, which turned out not to be the best way to watch it since it was raining a lot for a while and, just, other stuff. Meh.

To me, the most interesting part was the sort of Easter Egg/clue that was the presence of "Non, je ne regrette rien. " Marion Cotillard, of course, sings it in La vie en rose, and I’m pretty sure her recording was the one being used, not Edith Piaf’s. When I first heard I shouted “that’s so meta!” But no one else got it since they suck (JK!) and don’t watch foreign ish. It being meta (perhaps even 'pata! Any 'pataphysicsists here?) thrusts the reality of movie’s initial setting into doubt. That part was really legit.

Actually, the whole movie was pretty 'pata. . . . At least in the sense of a 'pataphor.

I’ll probably have to rewatch, since I always see at least one, and often two movies while in Maryland and I can’t think of anything else out that I’d rather see.

ETA: Is Ariadne’s name supposed to be a reference to mythology? The only thing I know about Ariadne is the painting of her with Bacchus.

It’s a reference to mythology. When Theseus is sent to be fed to the minotaur Ariadne gives him thread so that he can go through the labyrinth and then find his way back out again. In essence, she leads him through the maze. Theseus was supposed to take her back with him when he left, but instead he leaves her stranded there where Dionysus/Bacchus makes her his wife. Nolan’s linking the labyrinth and the mazes she makes when she constructs the dream world.

this movie was amazing. the plot, the effects, the complete ingenuity. However, the only characters that I felt the viewer really got to see deep into were Cobb and his wife (althought to a much lesser extent). Marion Cotillard will be nominated for best actress I am sure, she was wonderful. The haunting madness of Cobb reminded me of Shutter Island, perhaps just because it was Leo Di Caprio again ^_^

It wasn’t that great.

So, something I was wondering…

When people “died” in dreams, didn’t their bodies just disappear? (I think they did, if they didn’t then w/e) So, if Cobb’s wife’s body didn’t disappear and was all bloody and such, how could Cobb be in a dream at the end?

You don’t actually see her hit the ground.

Well, I know, but wouldn’t Cobb have seen her body? You can assume that if her body just disappeared that he would realize that he was in a dream.
