Incoming freshmen advice!

With college a month away I just have a couple questions about the social scene on campus:

 • So I’m going to be in a triple (hopefully in the red bricks–those were my preference selections) and so are the red bricks an environment where I can meet people who want to get good grades and have fun or…?

On the class of 2018 Facebook page many continuing students make it seem that if you don’t drink and do drugs and party hard that you’re essentially an outcast. Is that 100% true or are there people that just want to have a good and safe time while at cal poly?

No, not all kids at SLO want to drink/party, and if you don’t take part in those activities you won’t be considered an outcast. Join a variety of clubs, make efforts to get to know people, and you will find those with similar interests as you.

Get involved in your hall activities…that’s what worked for my daughter last year when she was in your position. There was always something fun planned by the RAs on Friday and Saturday nights and she enjoyed activities for the club in her major as well. Which dorm did you end up in?

Thanks for the advice! I ended up in trinity hall which is ok because I’m a liberal arts major anyways. So I think it’ll be alright because I heard that the towers are the party dorms and the red bricks have a balance of study/party. What’s funny about my housing assignment is that I was placed with 2 jocks and I’m like the average joe when it comes to looking/acting fit. So this year will definetly be interesting to say the least!

Trinity has a strong reputation for being a close-knit community…my daughter was there last year and loved it and we had heard the same thing from previous year’s students. I think you’ll find a great group of friends there!
