Yale Daily News - Increase in early applications anticipated

It'll be interesting to see what the two remaining SCEA colleges, Yale and Stanford, think after this year's admission cycle.

It might devolve into a game of chicken - the current situation is bad for all of them, I wonder who will blink first!

For all those who applied EA, did you receive a confirmation email along with your pin number account from Yale university saying they received your apps? I only got a confirmation from commonapp.com

Yes, a confirming email from Yale after 3 days, and a snail mail letter with pin#, about 10 days after electronic filing of common app.

Riverrunner, did you receive a confirming email from Yale? I have yet to receive one and am getting quite nervous.

Yes, confirming email but not for at least 3 days. If you submitted on or just before Nov 1, I would think they are up to their eyeballs in apps. Don't worry. We've been told that it will be Nov 15 before they have logged in all materials received on or before Nov 1. Take a deep breath. It will be OK.

I sent my application on the 25th of November, they downloaded it on the 19th. I've only received a confirmation from the Common App. However, I assume that they're simply busy with the applicants that beat me to the punch. I haven't received any confirmation snail-mail or e-mail from Yale yet so don't fret.

Official SCEA numbers by the end of this week...

Any guesses?

I'm HOPING it wont be over 6000. But it'll probably be around 6500-7000 I'm thinking...

My very inexperienced projection is about the same, akiiriah. 7,000ish... Yikes!

Looks like they're admitting the same NUMBER and not percent, too, unless they expect lower yield from H and P fans who apply early...? Does anyone know the number of EA admits from last year?

Here are the stats for the class of 2011:

SCEA applied: 3594
SCEA admitted: 709 (19.7%)
SCEA rejected: 677 (18.8%)
SCEA deferred: 2208 (61.4%)

sooo 709 of about 7000 would put us at 10%? maybe a bit more because they might expect a significant portion of those acceptees to ultimately choose harvard or princeton. so 12%ish i would assume...

but this is just me randomly speculating.

akiiriah,

No waitlists for SCEA?

No waitlists for SCEA because those who are admitted have until May to respond. That would be a needlessly complex category to create. Those not offered admissions are deferred into the Regular Decision pool or rejected.

He means deferred into regular and then waitlisted.

Deferred means you will be considered with RD applicants--there's no need for an SCEA waitlist.

Well, at least SCEA doesn't look like it'll be a disadvantage this year.

when will the official SCEA numbers be released?

By the end of this week?

Like I said on a different thread, I read the Yale Daily News every day and assume that will be the place where the EA stats are first released to the public. I'll post a link to the article when it comes out.

It says in the article by the end of this week...
